Chapter 4 - The Boardroom AmbushThe next morning, the sun rose over Manhattan, casting a sharp, golden light across the glass facade of Vance Global Enterprises. Inside the thirty-sixth-floor boardroom, the atmosphere was thick with tension.

The emergency board meeting had been called at 7:00 AM.
The board members—all elderly, impeccably tailored men and women who had served since Arthur Vance’s era—sat around the massive glass table murmuring anxiously. At the head of the table sat Daniel, looking unreadable in a charcoal three-piece suit.
Standing right beside him, wearing a sharp, tailored navy-blue pantsuit that cost more than three months of her previous housekeeping salary, was Emily.
The heavy oak doors swung open, and Vanessa strode in. She looked exhausted, her hair hastily styled, wearing yesterday's designer dress. Her father, Robert Sterling—Senior Legal Counsel for Vance Global—walked right beside her, his face flushed with righteous indignation.
"Daniel, have you lost your absolute mind?!" Robert boomed, slamming his leather briefcase onto the table before he even sat down. "Dragging my daughter to a holding room? Freezing our family assets based on a disgruntled maid's stunt? I demand an immediate apology, and then we are voting on a motion of no confidence against your leadership!"
Several board members nodded in agreement, murmuring murmurs of assent.
Vanessa sank into a chair beside her father, casting a venomous, murderous glare at Emily. "You think a cheap maid and some faked CCTV footage can save you, Daniel? My father has owned this board for thirty years. You're out."
Daniel didn't blink. He didn't raise his voice. He simply leaned back, laced his fingers together, and looked at Robert Sterling.
"Robert," Daniel said smoothly. "Tell me something. How is your offshore account in the Cayman Islands doing? The one funded by Arthur Vance’s embezzlement payouts in 2004?"
Robert’s face instantly lost all color. The booming confidence vanished in a microsecond, replaced by a look of sheer, unadulterated terror. He gripped the edge of the table so hard his knuckles turned white.
"What... what are you talking about?" Robert stammered, his voice cracking. "That's—that's corporate slander!"
"Is it?" Daniel gestured with his hand.
Emily stepped forward. She pressed a remote control in her hand.
Behind them, the massive projection screen flickered to life. It didn't show CCTV footage this time. It displayed a detailed, itemized financial forensic report, complete with bank transfer receipts, notarized signatures, and digital audit trails dating back two decades.
"According to the forensic audit completed at 4:00 AM by our newly appointed Chief Compliance Officer," Daniel said, his voice ringing like a death knell through the room, "over forty million dollars was systematically funneled out of Vance Global R&D accounts into dummy corporations controlled by Arthur Vance and Robert Sterling."
Gasps erupted around the table. Board members scrambled to look at the documents displayed on their own smart tablets, their faces turning pale as the numbers verified themselves in real time.
"And," Daniel added, turning his gaze directly to Vanessa, "your daughter attempted to cover up this legacy of theft by framing a former employee whose mother was framed for the exact same crime twenty years ago."
Vanessa stood up so fast her chair screeched loudly against the polished floor. "It's a lie! She forged those documents! That maid is a fraud!"

"The maid," Daniel said, his voice rising in volume and authority, cutting through her hysterics like a guillotine, "is legally a Vance shareholder by blood, and now, she holds the authority to dismantle every single one of you."
Robert slumped back into his chair, defeated. The empire of lies was crumbling into dust right before their eyes.
