Chapter 10 - THE UNEXPECTED TWISTTwo years later, the Kane Empire was stronger, safer, and surprisingly more domestic than anyone in the New York underworld could have ever imagined.

I was sitting at the grand mahogany desk in the Tribeca penthouse office, reviewing quarterly reports, while a little girl with big, curious gray-blue eyes sat on the rug playing with building blocks alongside an eight-year-old Noah.
The door opened, and Adrian walked in, loosening his silk tie, looking as devastatingly handsome as the day I first met him. He walked straight over to my desk, leaning down to press a tender kiss to the top of my head, before glancing down at the little girl on the floor.
“How are my two favorite accountants doing?” Adrian asked with a soft smile.
Noah looked up, rolling his eyes with all the dramatic flair of a pre-teen. “Dad, Chloe doesn't know how to balance a ledger yet. She’s only two. She just eats the crayons.”
“Hey, eating crayons builds character,” I laughed, closing my laptop and leaning back into Adrian’s warm embrace as his arms wrapped around my shoulders from behind.
Just then, my phone buzzed on the desk.
It was an alert from the corporate security network downstairs. A new visitor had just bypassed the lobby security using an override key card—an override that only three people in the entire world possessed.
Adrian’s body went instantly rigid. His mafia instincts flared to life, his hands dropping defensively as his eyes locked onto the elevator monitor on the wall.
“Who has the master key?” I whispered, a sudden chill running down my spine.
We watched the monitor as the private elevator doors slid open on our floor.
A figure stepped out into the penthouse foyer—slim, elegant, wearing an oversized trench coat and dark sunglasses, holding a small briefcase.
She took off her sunglasses, tossed her dark hair over her shoulder, and looked straight into the security camera with a wicked, familiar smirk.
My jaw dropped.
Adrian stared at the screen, his face turning a shade of pale I hadn't seen since Victor Morosco pointed a gun at his mother.
“Is that...” Adrian breathed, his voice catching in his throat.
“Surprise, big brother!” the stunning woman called out directly into the lobby camera, waving cheerfully. “I heard you settled down, married your secretary, and had a baby! Well, the prodigal sister is back, and I brought the family archives with me.”
Adrian buried his face in his hands, groaning deeply.
“Who is that?!” I demanded, turning to look at my husband with wide eyes.
Adrian looked up, his gray-blue eyes a mixture of dread and helpless resignation.
“Elena... meet my twin sister, Isabella Junior,” Adrian sighed. “The one person in the mafia world who is crazier than me.”
Noah stood up from the floor, clapped his hands together excitedly, and yelled across the penthouse:
“Dad! Does this mean we get another gunfight for breakfast?!”
I looked at Adrian, raised an eyebrow, and reached slowly for my desktop drawer where the spare Glock was hidden.

“Welcome to the family,” I muttered with a grin.
THE END.
