Chapter 10 - The Master Key and the HorizonThe evening fog rolled softly across Boston Harbor, blanketing the historic brick warehouses and glittering skyscrapers in a quiet, ethereal mist.

Inside the private penthouse overlooking the water, a low fire crackled in the stone hearth, casting dancing orange shadows against the exposed brick walls. The city hummed far below, a distant, muffled symphony of urban life that felt entirely miles away.

Evelyn stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, holding a glass of rich red wine. The heavy antique skeleton key rested on the marble coffee table behind her, catching the flickering light of the fire.

She wasn't the woman she had been two months ago. She hadn't shrunk her voice, she hadn't apologized for taking up space, and she certainly hadn't let anyone write her story for her. She had reclaimed her grandfather’s brownstone, dismantled a corrupt financial fraud, and built a thriving design empire entirely on her own terms.

Footsteps echoed softly across the hardwood floor behind her.

Strong arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her back gently against a warm, solid chest. Roman rested his chin on her shoulder, breathing in the scent of cedarwood and vanilla that followed her everywhere.

"Penny for your thoughts," Roman murmured, his deep voice vibrating against her spine.

Evelyn leaned back into his embrace, tilting her head up to meet his dark, unwavering gaze.

"I was just thinking about the night you walked into that engagement party," Evelyn said, a playful smile touching her lips. "You ruined my wedding, destroyed my social standing, and upended my entire life in about thirty seconds."

Roman’s mouth curved into a slow, dangerous, affectionate smile.

"And do you regret a single second of it?" he asked softly.

Evelyn turned completely in his arms, wrapping her hands around his neck, looking deep into the eyes of the man who had burned down her prison before she ever had to step inside.

"Not a single second," Evelyn whispered. "Now... show me what else you know how to destroy."

Roman pulled her flush against him, kissing her with a fierce, absolute certainty that needed no words, no contracts, and no permission—a beginning so absolute it would echo across Boston for a lifetime.
