Chapter 39 - The Return to the Villa

By dawn, the Mediterranean coast had returned to its usual breathtaking serenity. The federal police had quietly processed Reinhardt and his operatives, whisking them away on a private transport flight back to Berlin without a single headline touching the Rossi name.

The villa was quiet, bathed in the soft, golden light of early morning.

I stood on the sprawling balcony of the master suite, holding a cup of steaming black coffee, watching the waves crash against the secluded cove below. The titanium microchip, now wiped clean of its data, rested at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea, dropped off the edge of the lighthouse cliff as a final punctuation mark to the past.

Footsteps approached softly from behind. Strong arms wrapped around my waist, pulling me back against Dominic’s warm, solid chest.

“You’re thinking about your father,” Dominic said softly, his voice a gentle hum against my neck.

“I am,” I confessed, looking out at the horizon. “For ten years, I thought he left me nothing but debt and chaos. But he left me the tools to survive in your world. He taught me how to look past the bleeding surface and find the root cause of the trauma.”

Dominic turned me around in his arms, looking down into my eyes with an intensity that completely melted away any remaining shadows. “You didn't just survive in my world, Nora. You conquered it. You became the queen of this house.”

“I’m an ER nurse, Dominic,” I teased, raising an eyebrow with a playful smirk. “I don't do royalty. I do triage.”

“Then diagnose me,” he whispered, his lips brushing against mine. “Because I’m completely, hopelessly addicted to you.”
