Chapter 40 - The Eternal Vow

Two years after I walked into the mountain fortress with a canvas duffel bag and a dying sedan, the world looked entirely different.
The Palermo pediatric clinic was thriving, funded entirely by legitimate philanthropic trusts bearing my father’s name. The Rossi syndicate operated as a transparent, global maritime enterprise, respected across continents not out of fear, but out of absolute economic authority.
And in the master suite of the coastal villa overlooking the Mediterranean, the air no longer smelled of old violence or lemon polish alone. It smelled of life, of blooming jasmine, of a future carved out of chaos and forged in iron and devotion.
We stood together on the cliffside terrace, watching the sun dip below the horizon in a breathtaking display of violet and gold. Dominic held me tight against his side, his fingers laced securely through mine, the silver band on my ring finger catching the fading light.
“So,” Dominic murmured, a slow, devilish smile touching his lips. “What’s our next project, Doctor? Should we rewrite the banking laws in Switzerland, or just take a vacation?”

I looked up at him, smiling as the Mediterranean breeze swept through my hair, feeling lighter, safer, and more alive than I ever had in my life.
“Let’s start with a vacation,” I whispered, pulling him down into a long, breathless kiss. “And then, we can see what kind of trouble we can fix next.”
