Chapter 7 - THE FINAL GAMBIT

As the federal agents moved up the stairs toward Victoria, a frantic look flashed across her face. She dropped the facade completely, her voice turning shrill and desperate.
"Don't come any closer!" Victoria screamed, her hand flashing inside her designer handbag.
Before anyone could react, she pulled out a heavy chrome remote detonator—the master override for the estate’s structural security grid.
"One step closer and I trigger the gas suppression system in the upper wing!" Victoria shrieked, tears of fury streaming down her face. "The whole house will lock down, and the oxygen scrubbers will vent in three minutes! Lily and I go out, or no one leaves this house alive!"
The agents stopped dead in their tracks. Arthur’s heart stopped. He looked at Lily, who finally realized something was terribly wrong and began to cry softly.
"Victoria, think about what you're doing," Arthur said, holding up his hands slowly, stepping forward to shield his daughter with his own body. "Your father’s ruin was corporate policy, not a personal vendetta. You don't have to throw your life away for vengeance."
"Shut up! Shut up!" Victoria sobbed hysterically, her thumb hovering over the red execution button on the remote. "You ruined my family! You took everything from me!"
"Daddy..." Lily whimpered from the stairs.
