Chapter 15 - The Siege at Dawn“Marco! Get the tactical response team on the perimeter alarms!” I roared, spinning away from the terminal.

“Already on it, boss!” Marco sprinted toward the control room. “The inner gates are locked, but they’re using heavy thermal breaching charges!”

I drew my pistol, checking the magazine with a sharp, practiced click. The Geneva call hadn't been a bluff. The Iron Crown didn't wait for subcontractors to fail twice; they sent their own cleaning crew.

BOOM!

A deafening shockwave rattled the upper floors of the mansion. The main iron security gates blew outward, sending a shower of burning metal across the gravel driveway.

Through the estate’s security cameras, I watched as a dozen heavily armed mercenaries in unmarked tactical gear poured onto the grounds. They weren't low-level syndicate thugs; they moved with military-grade precision, sweeping the gardens and heading straight for the main residence.

“Boss!” Marco’s voice blared over the secure comms earpiece. “They’ve jammed our satellite uplink! We’re cut off from local law enforcement dispatch!”

“Fall back to the reinforced panic room on the second floor,” I ordered, keeping my stride steady as I rushed down the hallway toward the nursery. “Protect the children at all costs. I’ll meet you at the stairwell.”

When I burst into the nursery, the nannies were huddled in the corner, shaking with terror.

Standing in the middle of the room, completely calm amidst the chaos, was Sophie.

She was holding her ugly button-eyed doll, staring directly at the reinforced window overlooking the front lawn.

“Mr. Moretti,” Sophie whispered as I rushed past her to grab the portable crib monitors. “The bad men aren't coming through the front door.”

I froze, turning to her. “What do you mean?”

Sophie pointed straight up toward the vaulted ceiling of the nursery.

“They’re coming through the roof.”
