Chapter 9 - The Final CipherThe cistern descended into a chaotic swirl of smoke, ringing alarms, and flashing red emergency lights.

Vance was on his knees, coughing violently, blood trickling from his ear as he tried blindly to reach for his dropped detonator.
I walked over, stepped firmly on the device with the heel of my shoe, and crushed it into pieces against the stone floor.
Vance looked up at me, his face bruised and bleeding, a bitter, broken smile twisting his lips. “You... you think you’ve won, Adrien? The master control sequence... it’s already uploaded to the external network. Even if you kill me, the estate’s automated defense grid will lock down permanently in sixty seconds. You’ll be buried alive in your own fortress.”
I didn't flinch. I looked down at him with cold, absolute detachment.
“You always assumed I was just a brute, Vance,” I said quietly. “You thought because I ran the syndicate with my fists, I didn't understand technology.”
I pulled a small, encrypted override drive from my breast pocket—a master key I had secretly engineered three years ago, knowing full well that anyone who builds an empire of fear must always prepare for betrayal from within.
“What... what is that?” Vance’s eyes widened in horror.
“The final cipher,” I replied.
I walked over to Vance’s main console, slammed the drive into the master port, and entered a six-digit code: 08-08-08—the birthdates of my triplets.
The screens flickered. The harsh red warning lights instantly shifted to a calm, steady blue.
SYSTEM PURGE COMPLETE. ADMIN ACCESS REVOKED. VANCE, A. - PERMANENTLY LOCKED OUT.
Upstairs, the heavy security gates hissed and retracted smoothly into the ceiling.
Elena dropped her shotgun to the floor, falling to her knees as tears streamed down her face. Marco moved in instantly, slapping heavy tactical zip-ties around her wrists and securing Vance with practiced efficiency.
As Marco dragged Vance toward the spiral staircase, the broken madman turned his head back, staring at me with hollow eyes.

“You can never wash the blood off your hands, Adrien,” Vance whispered hoarsely. “You’ll always be a monster.”
“Maybe,” I replied, turning my back on him. “But today, I’m a father.”
