Chapter 10 - Happily Ever AfterSix months later, the front pages of every major lifestyle magazine and financial journal carried a very different kind of headline.

There was no scandal. No disgraced fiancée groveling in the mud. No dramatic tabloid exposés.

Instead, the cover of Forbes featured a full-page portrait of Evan Whitaker sitting on the sprawling green lawn of his Greenwich estate, flanked by two happy, smiling children holding a golden retriever puppy—and right beside him, smiling naturally and comfortably, was Grace.

The headline read: The Billionaire Who Lost His Fortune in Fake Masks—And Found His Real Life.

Inside the article, details were sparse about Vanessa Vale, whose multi-million-dollar asset-stripping trial had quietly concluded with a maximum federal prison sentence for wire fraud and forgery. The legal system had done its job, and the name Vanessa Vale had been permanently scrubbed from the high-society registries of Greenwich.

Back at the Whitaker estate, the sun was setting over the western hills, painting the sky in brilliant shades of violet and gold.

Inside the grand kitchen, the air smelled of fresh chocolate chip cookies and warm vanilla.

Sophie and Caleb were fast asleep upstairs in their beds, their bedroom doors wide open, completely secure in the knowledge that there was only one set of rules in this house—the rules of love, safety, and absolute trust.

Downstairs, standing by the French doors that led out to the rose garden, Evan and Grace stood close together, watching the final fading rays of twilight.

Evan wrapped his arms gently around Grace’s waist from behind, resting his chin comfortably on her shoulder. She leaned back against his chest, her hands resting over his.

"You know," Grace whispered with a soft smile, looking out at the blooming hydrangeas where it all began, "you still haven't told me why you wore that ridiculous fake beard for eleven whole days."

Evan chuckled, a deep, rich sound that vibrated against her back.

"I wanted to see who people were when they thought nobody important was watching," Evan murmured, pressing a soft kiss to her temple. "Turns out, I had to lose everything pretending to be a poor gardener... just to finally find the greatest treasure of my life."

Grace turned in his arms, wrapping her arms around his neck, looking up into his warm gray eyes.

"And you're never going back undercover?" she teased softly.

"Never," Evan promised, and leaning down, he kissed her—not with the cold authority of a billionaire closing a deal, but with the quiet, enduring devotion of a man who had finally come home.
