Chapter 12 - "AN UNINVITED GUEST AT THE RE-WEDDING"

Despite the rising threat, Daniel and Amy refused to live in fear. They decided to move forward with a quiet, private vow renewal on the wind-swept cliffs overlooking the Newport coastline—the place where they had rebuilt their shattered lives.

There were no reporters, no multi-million dollar flower arrangements, and no society photographers. Only Margaret, Sarah, baby Clara, and a local justice of the peace standing beneath a simple wooden arbor wrapped in white roses.

As Daniel slid a new, modest silver band onto Amy’s finger, his eyes glistened with uncharacteristic emotion. "Seven years ago, I gave you a diamond because I thought wealth was proof of devotion. Today, I give you this simple ring because you taught me that love isn't measured in carats—it’s measured in showing up."

Amy smiled, tears of joy tracing her cheeks. "I accept the husband you are today, Daniel."

The minister spoke. "By the power vested in me, I pronounce you—"

A deafening pop echoed across the cliffside.

A high-altitude drone descended rapidly from the dark clouds above, hovering just fifteen feet over the wedding altar. Guests gasped as a velvet-wrapped box detached from the drone’s undercarriage and slammed onto the wooden altar table.

Daniel instantly shielded Amy and Clara with his body as Marcus drew his sidearm, shooting the drone clean out of the sky. The machine crashed into the ocean waves below.

Silence fell over the cliff.

Daniel approached the velvet box with extreme caution. Inside rested a vintage silver baby rattle—a duplicate of the heirloom Daniel had bought in London years ago. Tucked beneath it was a small black envelope containing a photograph taken less than two minutes prior: a zoomed-in shot of Clara smiling in Amy’s arms on the cliff, with a bright red crosshair centered over the child’s chest.
