Chapter 18 - "THE BLOODLINED RECKONING IN THE LIGHTHOUSE"

Before Julian could raise his weapon, the iron door behind him was kicked open with immense force.
Amy stood in the doorway, drenched in rain, holding a massive heavy flare gun from the lighthouse’s emergency station.
"Get away from my family!" Amy screamed.
Without hesitation, she pulled the trigger. A bright, blinding magnesium flare shot through the room with a deafening roar, striking Julian’s armed guard squarely in the chest. The guard screamed as intense heat and light filled the room, sending him crashing into the wall and dropping his firearm.
In the blinding flash of light, Daniel reacted with instantaneous, lethal instinct. He tackled Julian to the floor, slamming the man’s wrist against the iron floorboards until his gun clattered away into the shadows.
Meanwhile, Vanessa, terrified by the explosion of fire and light, stumbled backward near the broken window edge, losing her footing. She slipped, dropping baby Clara toward the yawning void of the ocean cliff!
"NO!" Amy shrieked.
Daniel threw himself across the slick floor, lunging out of the broken window, catching Clara’s blanket by his fingertips just inches before she fell into the abyss!
With his legs hooked around an iron support beam, Daniel hauled his daughter back up into the safety of the room, cradling her against his bleeding chest.
Vanessa lost her balance completely. With a piercing scream that was swallowed by the storm, she fell backward into the dark, churning waters two hundred feet below, disappearing forever into the Pacific waves.
Julian scrambled to his feet, grabbing his dropped pistol, aiming it directly at Amy’s heart. "If I don't get the empire, nobody gets anything!"
BANG!
A gunshot echoed through the lighthouse—but it didn't come from Julian's gun.

Julian’s eyes went wide with shock. He looked down at his chest, where a single bullet hole was spreading blood across his shirt. He dropped to his knees, collapsing onto the iron floor.
Behind him stood Margaret Harrison, holding a smoking revolver in her trembling hands, her face hardened by the ultimate fierce love of a mother protecting her children.
