Chapter 15 - "THE KIDNAPPING AT THE HARBOR HOUSE"

The revelation shattered the foundation of the Harrison family, but the real trap had already been sprung.

While the police handcuffed Julian Vance in the New York boardroom, a sudden security alert blared on Daniel’s phone. The perimeter sensors at their coastal cottage in Oregon had been breached.

"Amy!" Daniel yelled, turning toward his wife.

"Clara!" Amy screamed.

She looked down at her chest—the baby carrier was empty. During the chaotic confrontation with Vance, a female waiter delivering tea to the boardroom had quietly lifted eight-month-old Clara from her carrier in the confusion.

On the table where the tea tray rested was a burner phone. It began to ring instantly.

Amy snatched the phone, pressing it to her ear, her voice shaking with unadulterated terror. "Where is my daughter?!"

"Hello, Amy," Vanessa Cole’s smooth, psychotic laugh rang out through the speaker. "She’s such a quiet baby. Doesn't cry much at all. Must take after her mother."

"Vanessa, I swear to God, if you hurt her—" Daniel roared, grabbing the phone from Amy’s hand.

"Listen closely, Daniel," Vanessa interrupted, her voice dropping into a raspy, murderous whisper. "No police. No security guards. No mothers. You come alone to the old Cape Perpetua lighthouse in one hour. If I see anyone else, your daughter takes a dive off the two-hundred-foot cliff into the Pacific ocean."

The call disconnected.
