CHAPTER 1 — The Woman Everyone Wanted Gone

Monday mornings at Hamilton Global Holdings were ruthless.

Executives rushed through the marble lobby carrying expensive coffee. Assistants hurried between elevators with tablets in hand. Security guards scanned every visitor without emotion.

Then the revolving door slowly turned.

A young woman stepped inside wearing plain gray clothes and worn-out sneakers.

Her handbag looked years old.

Her hair was tied into a simple ponytail.

She looked completely out of place among the million-dollar suits.

The receptionist barely looked up.

"Delivery entrance is around the back."

The woman smiled politely.

"I'm not making a delivery."

Before she could finish, several employees waiting nearby began whispering.

"Is she applying for the cleaning staff?"

"Maybe she's lost."

"I've never seen anyone dressed like that walk in here."

One woman laughed loud enough for everyone to hear.

"I bet she can't even afford lunch in this building."

The woman didn't argue.

She simply thanked the receptionist and quietly sat in the waiting area.

Her name was Emily Carter.

Nobody there knew that name.

Not anymore.

Three years earlier...

Emily had disappeared from the corporate world overnight after resigning from the company everyone believed she had failed.

Rumors spread quickly.

Some claimed she had been fired.

Others said she lost everything after a terrible investment.

Some even believed she had become homeless.

No one knew the truth.

Especially not Vanessa Brooks.

Vanessa had climbed the corporate ladder faster than anyone.

Now she was Executive Director.

Beautiful.

Confident.

Arrogant.

She loved reminding everyone that she had "built Hamilton into what it is today."

When Vanessa walked into the lobby, conversations stopped immediately.

She noticed Emily.

Then frowned.

"Why is she still sitting here?"

The receptionist shrugged.

"She says she's waiting for someone."

Vanessa walked over slowly.

High heels clicking across the marble floor.

She looked Emily up and down before smiling cruelly.

"Can I help you?"

Emily stood politely.

"I'm meeting someone."

Vanessa laughed.

"Who exactly?"

Emily answered calmly.

"The CEO."

Silence.

Then...

The entire lobby exploded with laughter.

Someone nearly spilled their coffee.

One manager whispered,

"The CEO?"

Another employee laughed so hard he had to lean against a pillar.

Vanessa folded her arms.

"Our CEO doesn't meet random strangers."

Emily simply nodded.

"I understand."

"You should leave before security escorts you out."

Emily looked toward the elevators.

"I think I'll wait."

Vanessa snapped her fingers.

"Security."

Two guards immediately approached.

People nearby pulled out their phones.

Some secretly recorded.

This was becoming entertainment.

One guard spoke politely.

"Ma'am, we'll need you to leave."

Emily reached into her old handbag.

Everyone assumed she was searching for identification.

Instead...

She carefully removed a tiny silver key.

It looked old.

Nothing special.

Vanessa smirked.

"Planning to unlock the CEO's office?"

More laughter.

Emily quietly looked at the key.

Then smiled to herself.

"He'll recognize this."

Vanessa rolled her eyes.

"Escort her out."

Just as the guards reached for Emily's arm...

Every elevator in the lobby suddenly opened.

Twenty executives rushed outside.

They lined up perfectly.

The laughter instantly stopped.

Because standing behind them...

Was the company's legendary CEO.

And the very first person he searched for...

Was the woman everyone had been humiliating.
