CHAPTER 5 — The Black Key

The black key was smaller than the silver one.

But the moment Charles saw it, his face lost all color.

Richard stared at it in shock.

"Emily..."

She nodded.

"Yes."

"The Mercer Archive."

Several board members began whispering.

No one fully understood what that meant.

But Charles did.

Twenty-five years earlier, Hamilton Global had created a secret archive for founder-level emergencies.

Every illegal board vote.

Every hidden agreement.

Every executive betrayal.

Stored offline.

Untouchable.

Protected by two keys.

The silver key opened the Founder Vault.

The black key opened the truth.

Charles tried to stay calm.

"That archive was destroyed."

Emily's eyes hardened.

"You destroyed the copy."

Richard walked to the back wall and pressed his hand against a hidden scanner.

The wooden panel opened.

Behind it was an old steel safe.

Emily inserted the black key.

The safe clicked open.

Inside was a single black drive.

Charles whispered:

"No..."

Emily connected it to the main screen.

A video appeared.

Three years ago.

Charles was sitting in a private office with Vanessa.

His voice filled the boardroom.

"Make Emily look unstable."

"Freeze her accounts."

"Leak the story that she failed."

"If she refuses to disappear, we make sure she never works again."

Vanessa asked:

"And if she comes back?"

Charles smiled in the video.

"Then we destroy her legally."

The video ended.

Nobody spoke.

Emily turned to the board.

"Three years ago, I did not abandon this company."

"I was forced out by forged documents, stolen medical records, and board corruption."

Then she looked at Charles.

"You didn't bury me."

"You taught me patience."

Charles slammed his cane against the floor.

"This proves nothing!"

Emily pressed another button.

More files appeared.

Secret payments.

Fake medical evaluations.

Bribed attorneys.

Names of every board member who helped him.

One director stood suddenly.

"I was threatened!"

Another whispered,

"He said he'd ruin my family."

Charles turned red with rage.

"You fools."

Then the conference room doors opened again.

This time...

Not federal agents.

Shareholders.

Employees.

Reporters.

Emily had streamed the entire meeting to the internal company network.

Every employee in Hamilton Global had watched Charles confess.

Charles stepped backward.

"You recorded this?"

Emily calmly replied:

"No, Charles."

"You recorded yourself."

Two investigators entered and placed him under arrest.

As they led him away, Charles stopped beside Emily.

His voice dropped into a whisper.

"You think this is over?"

Emily leaned closer.

"No."

"I know it isn't."

Because inside the black archive was one final file.

A file labeled:

May you like

CARTER FAMILY ACCIDENT.

And Emily had never opened it before.
