CHAPTER 6 – “The Dead Man Walked Into the Prison”

The riot spread through every cell block.
Emergency lights flashed red.
Steel doors locked automatically.
Blackwell laughed into his radio.
“Seal every exit.”
“No one leaves alive.”
But one guard suddenly ran toward him, pale with fear.
“Sir…”
“There’s someone at the main gate.”
Blackwell frowned.
“What idiot would come here tonight?”
The guard swallowed hard.
“He says he used to work here.”
“He showed an old investigator's badge.”
Blackwell rolled his eyes.
“Arrest him.”
The guard didn't move.
“He also gave us a name.”
Blackwell's expression froze.
“What name?”
The guard whispered:
“Daniel Carter.”
The Warden staggered backward.
Impossible.
Daniel Carter had been declared dead twelve years earlier.
Blackwell had watched his body disappear into a burning warehouse.
He couldn't be alive.
Down in the arena, the Kid heard the name through the loudspeakers.
His heart stopped.
Daniel Carter.
His father.
Before he could react, every television screen inside the prison suddenly flickered to life.
A live security camera appeared.
Standing outside the prison gates...
Covered in scars...
Holding a thick file of evidence...
Was an older man with piercing eyes.
He looked directly into the camera and spoke only one sentence.
“Open the gates.”
“I'm here to finish the investigation they thought they buried with me.”
Inside the prison, Blackwell's hands began to shake.
May you like
Because the one man he feared more than any prisoner...
Had just come back from the dead.
