CHAPTER 1 — "The Boy They Chose to Die"

The underground prison had only one rule.
Walk into the fighting pit... or never walk out again.
Every Saturday night, hundreds of inmates crowded around the steel cages, screaming for blood. The strongest men ruled with broken bones and fear. Guards took bets. Criminal bosses watched from the shadows.
Tonight's victim looked almost laughable.
A skinny 19-year-old prisoner named Ethan Carter stepped barefoot into the wet concrete arena, his wrists still marked by fresh handcuffs. His face was bruised from weeks of abuse, yet his gray eyes remained strangely calm.
Across from him stood Brutus Kane, a mountain of muscle who had never lost a prison fight.
Brutus cracked his neck and laughed.
"Kid... I'll make this quick."
The crowd exploded with cheers.
Some inmates were already betting how many seconds Ethan would survive.
Ten.
Maybe fifteen.
Nobody noticed Ethan quietly studying every movement around him.
Nobody noticed his breathing never changed.
And nobody questioned why the prison warden himself had come to watch.
The bell rang.
Brutus charged like a raging bull.
One punch...
One kick...
One mistake...
Ethan slipped aside so effortlessly that Brutus crashed face-first onto the concrete floor.
Silence.
The arena had never gone quiet before.
Brutus roared with embarrassment and attacked again—harder, faster, more violently than ever.
But somehow...
The frightened teenager wasn't fighting like a prisoner.
He moved like someone trained to survive impossible situations.
Each dodge looked effortless.
Each step seemed perfectly calculated.
The spectators stopped cheering.
For the first time in years...
They were watching the giant become frustrated.
Then Ethan whispered something almost no one could hear.
"I'm sorry... I promised my mother I'd never fight again."
The words chilled the nearest guard.
May you like
Because men who apologized before violence...
Were usually the most dangerous of all.
