CHAPTER 5 — The Sibling Who Sold Their Brother

No one moved.
The air felt too heavy to breathe.
Michael turned slowly.
"What does that mean?"
Richard's recording continued.
"Samuel was born before I married your mother."
"I was young."
"Cowardly."
"I let money and reputation decide what love should have decided."
Emily covered her mouth.
Richard's voice cracked.
"I searched for him years later."

Victoria whispered, "No..."
On the screen, security footage appeared.
A private investigator's office.
A younger Victoria sitting across from a man.

Daniel shook his head.
"I only knew Dad was searching for someone."
Victoria cried, "I thought Samuel wanted money!"
Michael stayed silent.
That silence answered everything.
Benjamin opened the final file.
Inside was a contract.
Michael had paid Samuel to disappear.
Not because Samuel wanted the company.
But because Richard had planned to name him equal heir.
Emily stepped back as if Michael had struck her.
"You erased our brother."
Michael shouted, "I protected this family!"
"No," Emily said.
"You protected your inheritance."
Suddenly, a voice came from behind them.
Calm.
Broken.
Familiar only to Richard's old photographs.
"You didn't protect anything, Michael."
Everyone turned.
A man stood at the vault entrance.
Simple jacket.
Gray eyes.
May you like
Richard's eyes.
Samuel Whitmore had come home
