CHAPTER 2: "THE WOMAN WHO UNDERSTOOD EVERYTHING"
Silence consumed the conference room.
No one moved.
No one even breathed.
The Arab delegation stared at Lena as though they had just seen a ghost.
Daniel looked from Lena... to Victor... and back again.
"What..."
"...did she just say?"
Victor answered too quickly.
"Nothing important."
Lena interrupted him.
"No."
She switched back to English.
"I asked them why they agreed to a clause that gives them complete ownership of your company after eighteen months."
The room exploded.
"What?"
Daniel grabbed the contract.
"Our lawyers checked every page."
Lena shook her head.
"The English version isn't the problem."
She pointed toward the Arabic version lying beside it.
"The Arabic contract contains three additional legal interpretations."
The lead attorney frowned.
"That's impossible."
She calmly picked up the document.
Without hesitation...
She translated paragraph after paragraph directly from Arabic.
Every sentence.
Every legal term.
Every hidden condition.
The lawyers' expressions changed with every line.
One attorney suddenly grabbed another copy.
His hands began shaking.
"My God..."
"...she's right."
Daniel snatched the contract.
"What exactly does it say?"
The senior lawyer swallowed hard.
"It says that if projected profits are not reached within eighteen months..."
"...the investors gain controlling ownership of Harrison Global."
Daniel felt the blood drain from his face.
"But that's not what Victor translated."
"No."
"It isn't."
Victor suddenly laughed nervously.
"There must be some misunderstanding."
Lena looked directly at him.
"There isn't."
She continued speaking in Arabic.
This time directly to Sheikh Omar.
The elderly investor listened carefully.
Then answered calmly.
The other investors nodded.
Lena translated.
"Sheikh Omar says..."
"...they never intended to deceive you."
Daniel frowned.
"What?"
"They believed your company fully understood every clause."
The room became even quieter.
Victor's forehead glistened with sweat.
Lena continued.
"They also say..."
"...you personally approved those conditions six months ago."
Daniel stared at Victor.
"I never did."
Victor finally lost his composure.
"She's lying!"
But before anyone could respond...
Lena smiled.
"Really?"
She pulled an old smartphone from her apron pocket.
"I've been recording this meeting since the moment I realized your translations didn't match."
Victor laughed again.
"Recordings prove nothing."
"They prove enough."
Lena pressed play.
Everyone listened.
First...
The investor spoke in Arabic.
Then...
Victor translated into English.
The two versions were completely different.
Not slightly different.
Completely opposite.
Gasps filled the room.
Daniel looked horrified.
His own lawyers compared the recording with the contract.
Every translation...
Was manipulated.
Every important clause...
Changed.
Every risk...
Hidden.
Victor suddenly stood.
"I can explain!"
But no one listened anymore.
One security guard quietly stepped toward the door.
Another blocked Victor's path.
Daniel's voice became ice cold.
"Nobody leaves."
Victor's breathing accelerated.
"You don't understand..."
"They forced me..."
But before he could finish...
One of the Arab investors slowly stood.
He looked directly at Victor.
Then spoke in Arabic.
His tone was calm.
But his eyes were furious.
Lena translated only six words.
"He says..."
"Victor has never worked for us."
The room froze again.
Daniel blinked.
"What?"
"He says they hired your interpreter because your office recommended him."
Every executive turned toward Victor.
His legs suddenly weakened.
He hadn't been working for the investors.
He had been planted...
Inside Daniel's own company.
And at that exact moment...
Daniel remembered something that made his heart stop.
Only five people had known about today's meeting.
Which meant...
Someone inside Harrison Global had spent months preparing the betrayal.
Victor wasn't the mastermind.
