Chapter 9 - The Reckoning in the HallwayBefore the guards could take a single step forward, a small, terrified voice pierced the heavy tension of the study.

"Leave her alone!"

Everyone froze and turned toward the doorway.

Standing in the shadows of the hallway, clutching his favorite stuffed animal in one hand and rubbing his sleepy eyes with the other, was Lucas. He was trembling from head to toe, but he was standing tall, blocking the exit.

Clara’s heart stopped. "Lucas, no! Go back to your room!"

"I won't let them take you," Lucas whispered, his voice shaking, tears streaming down his cheeks. But for the first time in two years, his voice was loud, clear, and filled with fierce, protective courage.

Arthur Sterling sneered, looking down at the five-year-old boy with utter contempt. "Get the brat out of the way."

One of the security guards took a heavy step toward Lucas.

Something inside Thomas snapped. It wasn't the cold, calculated rage of a CEO; it was the primal, unyielding fury of a father protecting his child.

In a fraction of a second, Thomas lunged across the desk, grabbing a heavy brass paperweight. Before the guard could reach Lucas, Thomas slammed the heavy metal into the guard’s shoulder, sending the man crashing backward into the mahogany bookshelf.

The second guard lunged at Thomas, throwing a wild punch that grazed Thomas’s jaw. Thomas countered with a brutal right hook, a move born from street fights in his youth before wealth had softened him. The guard stumbled, hitting his head against the doorframe and collapsing to the floor unconscious.

Arthur’s face drained of all color. He backed away toward the door, his hands trembling slightly. "You... you're insane. You'll spend the rest of your life in prison for assault!"

"No, Arthur," Thomas said, wiping a drop of blood from his lip as he stepped slowly toward his father-in-law, his eyes burning with righteous fury. "I'm going to spend the rest of my life watching you rot behind bars."

Sirens suddenly wailed in the distance, growing louder by the second, flashing red and blue lights painting the high windows of the grand foyer.

Clara let out a shaky breath, stepping forward with her phone in her hand. "You didn't think I only set a cloud timer, did you, Arthur? The local federal field office received the encrypted transfer packet ten minutes ago."

Victoria shrieked, grabbing her grandfather’s arm. "Grandpa! What do we do?!"

There was nothing they could do. Within minutes, federal agents and local police flooded the grand mansion, their heavy boots echoing across the marble floors. Arthur Sterling and Victoria were handcuffed and led out of the estate in disgrace, their multi-billion-dollar empire crumbling into dust before their eyes.
