Chapter 4 - The Private Suite Secret

Instead of the hospital, Julian bypassed the chaotic exit entirely, steering Claire through a private side corridor that led directly to his personal wing of the sprawling estate.

"No, Julian, I need to go to a doctor—the fall was too hard, I need to make sure the baby..." Claire protested, her hand instinctively resting on her stomach as anxiety began to claw at her chest again.

"We have a full medical team on standby in my private medical wing," Julian interrupted gently, opening a heavy mahogany door that revealed a fully equipped examination room, complete with a private physician waiting inside. "I trust no one outside these walls tonight, Claire. Not after what just happened."

Dr. Sterling, a seasoned family physician who had served the Vance household for decades, immediately stepped forward, guiding Claire to the examination table. Julian stood right by her side, his hand gripping hers with a fierce, unbreakable hold throughout the entire ultrasound procedure.

The room was agonizingly quiet until the rhythmic, galloping sound of a healthy heartbeat filled the air.

Thump-thump, thump-thump, thump-thump.

Claire let out a ragged sob, tears finally spilling over her lashes as the tension melted out of her shoulders. Dr. Sterling smiled warmly, turning off the monitor. "Mother and baby are remarkably healthy, Mr. Vance. There is no sign of internal trauma or detachment. It’s a miracle."

Julian closed his eyes for a brief second, exhaling a breath he felt like he had been holding for the last ten minutes. When he opened them, the raw relief in his gaze quickly hardened into a dangerous resolve.

He waited until Dr. Sterling had packed his equipment and left the room, closing the heavy door behind him. The private suite was dead quiet now, save for the ticking of a grandfather clock in the corner.

"Why were you here, Claire?" Julian asked quietly, stepping closer to her. "Three years ago, you walked out of my life, left a note saying you never wanted to see me again... and tonight, you show up in my ancestral home, pregnant with a child who looks suspiciously close to my timeline, and nearly get murdered by Eleanor."

Claire looked up, her jaw tightening. "I came for my mother's journal, Julian. The one Eleanor stole from our estate after the crash. And as for the rest..." She swallowed hard, her eyes flashing with defiance. "You forfeited the right to ask questions about my life the day you chose your father's corporate empire over us."

Julian flinched as if struck. "You think I chose power over you? Claire, I was framed—"

"Save it," she interrupted bitterly, pulling her hand from his grip. "I'm leaving. Now."
