Chapter 6 - The BreachThe sound of shattering glass echoed through the executive suite like a gunshot.

Leo whimpered, instantly crawling backward toward the safety of the sofa, while Julian buried his face into the cushions. Elena let out a sharp gasp, grabbing Tobias’s sleeve with instinctive panic.
Tobias didn't hesitate. He shoved Elena behind him, his body acting as a human shield, and reached into the mahogany desk drawer, withdrawing a sleek, black legal-defense firearm—a heavy-caliber piece he kept locked away for corporate emergencies that police could not solve.
"Stay behind the desk," Tobias commanded in a lethal whisper.
The heavy oak doors of the office didn't just open; they were kicked inward with brutal force, splintering the reinforced frame.
Three men stepped through the threshold. They wore tailored black tactical suits, their faces expressionless, their movements calculated and precise. They didn't look like common thugs; they looked like corporate mercenaries—the kind of private enforcement division wealthy dynasties deployed when the law became an inconvenience.
"Mr. Marrow," the lead operative said, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. He held a suppressed firearm pointed toward the floor, his eyes scanning the room before locking onto Elena and the boys. "We’re here to collect Mrs. Vance and the children. Cooperate, and no one gets hurt."
Tobias stepped forward, his body rigid, the firearm in his hand locked firmly on the intruder’s chest. "You took three steps past the threshold of a federal-grade security zone. That means you have about thirty seconds before my private security detail turns this entire floor into a firing range."
The operative let out a cold, humorless chuckle. "Your security detail downstairs is currently dealing with a synchronized power outage and a federal lockout order issued by the Department of Corporate Assets. Your towers belong to the Vance estate now, Mr. Marrow. You're bankrupt before midnight."
Elena gasped behind him, her hands flying to her mouth.
Tobias didn't flinch. His mind raced at light speed, calculating every angle, every exit, every variable. He knew the Vance family was powerful, but moving this fast meant they had inside help—someone high up in Marrow Holdings had sold them the encryption keys.
"Victoria," Tobias called out sharply toward the open doorway of the adjoining office.
There was no answer.
A cold sweat broke out along the back of Tobias’s neck. Victoria was gone.
"She's already been escorted out," the mercenary smiled, raising his weapon slightly. "Now, step away from the woman and the kids, Mr. Marrow. Let's not make this messy."
Tobias looked back at Elena. Her green eyes were wide with sheer terror, not for herself, but for the two little boys huddled behind the sofa. In that single, frozen fraction of a second, Tobias realized something profound: all his wealth, all his towers, all his ruthless control meant absolute zero if he couldn't shield the people who carried his blood.
"You want them?" Tobias said, his voice dropping into a terrifying, unnatural calm. He lowered his weapon slightly, feigning submission. "Take them. But let her go."
"Tobias, no!" Elena screamed, lunging forward.
"Shut up, Elena!" Tobias barked back, his eyes flashing with a hidden signal she had never seen before—the look he used right before executing a hostile takeover.
The lead operative stepped forward, lowering his guard just a fraction as he reached out to grab Elena’s arm. "Smart choice, Marrow. Wealth comes and goes, but—"
He never finished the sentence.
With blinding speed, Tobias lunged forward, slamming the heavy butt of his firearm directly into the operative’s jaw with bone-crushing force. As the man staggered backward, Tobias spun, sweeping his leg to take out the second mercenary's knees, while simultaneously reaching for the panic button hidden underneath the edge of his mahogany desk.
BEEP.

The entire forty-second floor erupted into blinding red emergency strobes. Heavy steel fire-shutters slammed down across every elevator door and window, sealing the executive suite off from the rest of the building like a submarine bulkhead.
"Get down!" Tobias roared, grabbing Elena and dragging her behind the heavy mahogany desk alongside the boys as gunfire shattered the glass partitions above them.
