Chapter 7 - The Counter-StrikeSparks rained down from the shattered ceiling panels as suppression fire chewed through the expensive wood of the executive desk.

"Tobias, they're going to kill us!" Elena yelled over the deafening roar of gunfire, pulling Leo and Julian tightly against her chest on the floor.
"They won't kill us—they need us alive to sign the trust transfer!" Tobias shouted back, his mind operating at maximum capacity. Adrenaline surged through his veins, sharpening every sense. He peeked over the edge of the desk, tracking the reflections in the polished glass walls.
The two remaining mercenaries were advancing cautiously, sweeping the room with tactical flashlights through the drifting smoke.
Tobias didn't wait. He slid across the polished hardwood floor, kicking over a heavy marble planter that shattered against the floor tiles, creating a loud diversion on the far side of the office. As both mercenaries whipped their weapons toward the noise, Tobias raised his firearm and fired two precise shots into the ceiling’s main electrical grid.
CRACK.
The room plunged into absolute darkness, save for the rhythmic, pulsing crimson glow of the emergency fire strobes.
Shouts of confusion echoed from the intruders. "Secure the perimeter! He's still armed!"
Tobias moved like a ghost through the shadows, utilizing the layout of his own office—every corner of which he had designed himself. He slammed into the first operative from behind, driving him face-first into the reinforced glass partition with a sickening thud that rendered the man unconscious instantly.
The second operative whipped around, his weapon leveling directly at Tobias’s chest.
Before he could pull the trigger, a heavy brass paperweight—flung with desperate, furious precision from behind the desk—struck him square in the temple. The man staggered, losing his balance just long enough for Tobias to close the distance, disarm him with a brutal wrist-lock, and drop him to the floor with a swift strike to the neck.
Silence crashed back over the room, broken only by the hum of the emergency shutters and the muffled cries of the two frightened boys.
Tobias stood chest-heaving in the red strobe light, blood dripping from a small graze on his forearm. He didn't waste a second. He turned and rushed back to the desk.
"Elena! Are you and the boys okay?"
Elena sat up, her face pale, her hands trembling as she checked Leo and Julian, who were crying softly from the terror of the noise. "We're... we're okay. Oh god, Tobias, you're bleeding."
"It's nothing," he said, pulling them all into a tight, protective embrace. For the first time in three years, the wall around his heart completely dissolved. He buried his face in Elena’s auburn hair, breathing in her scent, realizing how close he had come to losing everything that truly mattered.
"I'm sorry," Elena whispered against his shoulder, her voice shaking violently. "I tried to keep them away to protect them from your world... but your world found us anyway."
"No," Tobias said, pulling back to look her straight in the eye, his expression fierce and unyielding. "My world didn't find you. I found you. And nobody—not the Vance family, not an offshore shell corporation, not anyone—is ever touching my family again."

He stood up, grabbing his encrypted satellite phone from the hidden wall compartment. He dialed a direct, high-level number bypassing all corporate switchboards.
"Connect me to the Federal District Attorney and the head of Marrow Global Security," Tobias commanded into the phone, his voice carrying the terrifying authority of a billionaire ready to wage total war. "Tell them we have an active corporate terrorist breach at Marrow Holdings, and I want every single asset belonging to the Vance estate frozen within the hour."
