CHAP 13: THE INFILTRATION OF SECTOR 7

💥 ARMED WITH A MOTHER'S FURIOUS VENGEANCE, THEY STORM THE VAULT!
The rain pounded relentlessly against the concrete facade of the Federal Reserve Building in downtown Chicago. At 3:00 AM, the financial district was a ghost town, swallowed by thick fog and shadow. Beneath the grand marble arches of the vault level lay Sector 7—a subterranean bunker built to withstand a nuclear strike.
Inside Marcus’s SUV, parked two blocks away, final preparations were being made. Eleanor Sterling plugged her encrypted flash drive into Marcus’s tactical terminal, bypassing the facility's biometric firewalls.
"The mainframe in Sector 7 controls the life support systems for all secondary Ravenhill facilities," Eleanor explained, pointing to a blueprint on the screen. "If Thorne initiates the purge sequence, gas will be released into forty-eight child containment pods across three states. You have less than twenty minutes before the wipe cycle becomes permanent."
"I’m coming with you," Julia said firmly, racking the slide of a light 9mm handgun Marcus had handed her.
"No, Julia," Marcus argued. "You stay with Leo and Liam in the vehicle."
"They locked my sons underground for two years, Marcus!" Julia snarled, her eyes burning with a mother's fierce, unstoppable vengeance. "I am not sitting in this car while the man who tortured them burns the evidence. I am ending this tonight."
Marcus looked at her determination, realizing there was no stopping her. He turned to Eleanor. "You watch the twins in the vehicle. If we aren't back in fifteen minutes, drive straight to the nearest military base."
Using an underground maintenance shaft mapped out by Eleanor, Marcus and Julia slipped into Sector 7 unseen. The interior of the facility was clinical, illuminated by sterile blue LED strips. Heavily armed private contractors paced the corridors.
Marcus moved with lethal precision. Eliminating two guards silencer-first, he secured their keycards, allowing them to breach the central server chamber.

Through the reinforced glass of the main terminal room, they saw Dr. Raymond Thorne standing before a massive digital console. A red countdown timer on the wall read: 05:42 UNTIL PURGE COMPLETION.
"Initiating secondary gas release," Thorne typed into the terminal, a cold, manic grin spread across his face. "If I can't own the Nexus protocol, no one will."
