CHAP 7: THE UNMASKING OF THE MASTERMIND

đ„ THE REAL VILLAIN STEPPED OUT OF THE SHADOWS!
Thirty minutes later, under the roaring concrete span of the Interstate 95 overpass, Marcus, Julia, and Arthur stood before a rusted, heavy steel storm door hidden behind thick vines and mounds of red clay.
The sound of massive semi-trucks rumbling overhead created a deafening vibration through the groundâexactly the noise young Leo had described.
Marcus pulled out Key B-104 recovered from the fake urn and inserted it into the heavy industrial lock of the storm door.
With a heavy metallic click, the door unlocked.
Marcus clicked on his tactical flashlight, rack-cleared his shotgun, and pushed the door open. A flight of concrete stairs descended deep into the dark earth. The air blowing up from the shaft smelled of antiseptic, copper, and ozone.
"Stay behind me," Marcus ordered, leading Julia down the narrow stairs. Arthur followed meekly, sobbing in terror.
At the bottom of the stairs, they entered a sprawling, ultra-modern underground laboratory. Row after row of glass partition rooms lined the long, sterile white hallway. Inside the rooms were cribs, toys, and advanced medical monitoring equipment.
"My God..." Julia gasped, tears flooding her eyes. "There are dozens of them..."
Childrenâtoddlers and infantsâwere inside the glass enclosures. They were clean, but their eyes were hollow, devoid of light, living in absolute isolation under artificial lights.
"Welcome, Detective Vance," a cold, cultured voice echoed through the hallway speakers.
At the end of the hall, double steel doors opened. A man in a tailored medical coat stepped out, flanked by three heavily armed private security guards.
It was Dr. Raymond Thorneâthe famous billionaire philanthropist and head of Ravenhill Medical.
"Dr. Thorne," Marcus said, pointing his shotgun directly at Thorne's chest. "It's over. Iâve broadcasted this facility's GPS coordinates to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Federal agents are five minutes away."
Dr. Thorne chuckled, a terrifying, dry sound. "Let them come, Detective. Do you really think I built this facility without high-level government protection?"
Thorne looked at Arthur Sterling with utter contempt. "Arthur, you weak fool. You panicked because your boy managed to slip through a rusted drainage pipe during yesterday's maintenance cycle."
"You lied to me, Thorne!" Arthur screamed. "You said my son was safe!"

"He was safe," Thorne sneered. "He was the primary donor for your life-saving serum. But now that heâs out in the world, exposed to the press... heâs a liability."
Thorne nodded to his guards. "Kill the detective and the woman. Prepare the children for immediate evacuation."
