Chapter 14 - The Columbus Expansion

Six months later, Grace’s Hearth in Columbus, Ohio, had grown into a local institution.
The bakery now occupied both storefronts on the corner of Broad Street, employing twelve people from the neighborhood, including single mothers, culinary school graduates, and young adults transitioning out of the foster care system.
Grace stood behind the main counter, dusting flour off her apron as she watched the morning rush unfold.
The bell chimed above the door, and a tall, familiar figure walked in, carrying a stack of architectural blueprints under his arm.
“Property acquisition for the second location is official,” Dante announced, walking behind the counter and kissing the top of Grace’s head.
Grace smiled, leaning into his touch. “You bought the old brick warehouse on Fifth Street?”
“The very same,” Dante grinned. “We’re turning the bottom floor into a commercial training kitchen and the top floor into loft apartments for our culinary apprentices. No more commuting back and forth between Chicago and Ohio for me. I’m officially moving my primary operations here.”
Grace laughed, shaking her head. “You gave up a multi-billion-dollar corporate headquarters in Chicago to run a bakery warehouse in Columbus?”

“I gave up a cage,” Dante corrected softly, taking her hands in his. “And I found a life.”
Their relationship had evolved past the initial shock of their different worlds into something deeply unshakeable. They were partners—not just in business, but in every breath, every choice, and every brick they laid to rebuild their futures.
