Chapter 15 - The Summer Gala

The following summer, the Moretti estate hosted an event entirely unlike any in its history.
Instead of wealthy investors, elite politicians, and socialites pretending to care about charity, the grand lawn was filled with local community workers, scholarship recipients, foundation volunteers, and families from the surrounding neighborhoods.
String lights hung from the ancient oak trees, casting a warm, golden glow across long wooden tables laden with food from Grace’s Hearth and local Ohio caterers.
Elena Moretti sat at the center table, laughing as a group of young culinary students explained their recipe for artisanal sourdough bread.
Dante stood near the garden terrace, wearing a lightweight linen shirt, holding a glass of sparkling cider as he watched Grace mingle with the guests.
She wore a flowing, emerald-green sundress that caught the evening breeze, her laughter ringing out clear and bright across the lawn.
Marcus Vance walked up beside Dante, handing him a folded envelope.
“Final corporate audit for the foundation is complete,” Marcus said. “Every cent recovered from Vanessa’s frozen assets has been successfully reinvested into the youth culinary grants.”
“Good,” Dante nodded, slipping the envelope into his pocket without opening it. “Keep a small reserve for next year’s scholarship fund.”

Marcus smiled, eyeing Dante’s relaxed posture. “You know, if someone told me five years ago that Dante Moretti would trade his penthouse for a bakery in Ohio, I would have had them psychologically evaluated.”
“People change, Marcus,” Dante replied, watching Grace walk toward him through the crowd. “Or rather, they finally figure out who they were supposed to be all along.”
