Chapter 12 - BLOOD AND LEDGERSThe betrayal hit Aleandro harder than any bullet ever could.

Marcus—the man who had stood beside him at his brother’s funeral, the man who had managed every legitimate offshore account and corporate merger for a decade—was the true mastermind behind the entire conspiracy. Isabella hadn't acted alone; she had been Marcus’s puppet, manipulated into planting the bug while Marcus siphoned millions from Moretti Holdings into secret Swiss accounts controlled by the remnants of the Sokolov syndicate.

"Marcus," Aleandro said, his voice dropping into a terrifying, lethal whisper as he lowered his gun from the wounded assassin and turned to face the truck. "Ten years. You sat at my table, you drank my whiskey, and you sold out the very blood we spilled together."

Marcus stepped down from the truck, his expensive Italian leather shoes crunching on the glass and gravel. He didn't look guilty; he looked triumphant, holding his assault rifle casually across his chest.

"Business, Aleandro," Marcus smiled coldly, adjusting his gold-rimmed glasses. "You built an empire on iron fists and outdated loyalty. The world has changed. Corporations don't run on honor anymore—they run on capital, algorithms, and hostile takeovers. And you were standing in the way of a three-billion-dollar merger with the European syndicate."

"You think you can steal my empire?" Aleandro asked, stepping out from the shadows into the glare of the truck’s headlights, completely unafraid.

"I don't think I can, boss," Marcus laughed, raising his rifle. "I already have. As we speak, your board of directors is voting to oust you on charges of financial corruption and reckless violence. By sunrise, Moretti Holdings will belong to me."

"You forgot one critical detail, Marcus," Aleandro said, a dark, dangerous smirk finally touching the corner of his mouth.

Marcus frowned, his confidence faltering for a fraction of a second. "What detail?"

"You didn't check the corporate firewall this morning," Aleandro replied smoothly.

Right on cue, the overhead warehouse lights flickered violently and died, plunging the entire pier into pitch blackness. At the exact same second, the massive digital screens mounted on the outside of the shipping containers lit up in glowing red letters:

FRAUDULENT WIRE TRANSFER DETECTED. ACCOUNT FROZEN BY FEDERAL AUTHORITIES AND MORETTI HOLDINGS SECURITY OVERRIDE.

Marcus’s face drained of all color. He pulled out his encrypted smartphone—it was dead, completely locked down by a remote master protocol.

"No... no, that's impossible!" Marcus panicked, tapping frantically at the black screen. "I routed those funds through three offshore shells!"

"You routed them straight into a federal sting operation I set up three weeks ago," Aleandro’s voice echoed out of the absolute darkness. "Because unlike you, Marcus... I always keep a spare key in the clock."

Before Marcus could raise his rifle, the heavy steel doors at the back of the warehouse blew open. Mateo and a dozen heavily armed tactical capos flooded the area, their laser sights locking instantly onto Marcus and his remaining men.

"Drop the weapon, Marcus," Mateo barked, pumping a round into the chamber of his shotgun. "Game over."
