Chapter 8 - THE NEW DYNASTYThree months later.

The international shipping headlines of the New York Tribune hailed Moretti Holdings as the most secure, untouchable shipping empire on the East Coast, following a massive restructuring of its corporate board and security protocols.

Inside the private office of the Brooklyn estate, a brand-new grandfather clock stood proudly against the wall. It wasn't carved from antique walnut like the old one, but its heavy brass pendulum swung with a steady, rhythmic cadence that filled the room with life.

Aleandro sat behind his massive mahogany desk, reviewing the morning manifests. The war with the Sokolovs was over; the rival family had fractured into powerless remnants hiding in the shadows of New Jersey.

The heavy oak door pushed open without a knock.

Sophia stood in the doorway carrying a tray of fresh coffee, while four-year-old Emma skipped across the Persian rug, wearing a brand-new pink dress and holding a brand-new plush rabbit.

"Morning, Mr. Moretti!" Emma announced cheerfully, planting her small shoes right beside his desk.

Aleandro set his pen down, leaning back in his leather chair with a faint smile playing across his lips. He reached into his desk drawer and pulled out a small, beautifully wrapped box tied with a silver ribbon.

"Good morning, Emma," Aleandro said, sliding the box across the polished wood. "Open it."

Emma’s eyes went wide. She tore off the ribbon and lifted the lid. Inside rested a small, silver pocket watch engraved with her initials—E.R.—alongside a tiny miniature brass gear.

"For me?" she gasped, looking up in disbelief.

"For the best investigator in Brooklyn," Aleandro said, standing up and walking around the desk to kneel beside her. "Every great empire needs someone who knows how to watch the clock."

Emma beamed, clutching the silver watch to her chest right beside her rabbit.

Sophia stood by the door, wiping her hands on her apron with a warm, grateful smile. "You spoil her, Mr. Moretti."

"Not enough, Sophia," Aleandro said, standing tall as the morning sun flooded through the tall windows, casting a golden light across the entire room. "Not nearly enough."
