Chapter 7 - The Visitor in the Penthouse

The rain lashed against the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the Boston penthouse, casting eerie, distorted shadows across the living room.
Bella stood by the kitchen island, warming a bottle of milk for Marco, when the private elevator chimed softly.
She didn't reach for a panic button. She simply walked over to the concealed mahogany panel near the hallway and rested her hand on the biometric lock.
The elevator doors slid open.
Standing in the entryway was a woman wrapped in an oversized black wool coat, her face partially obscured by a damp hood. As she stepped forward and lowered the hood, the dim lighting revealed a striking, pale face with sharp, defiant eyes.
Elena Vance.
The younger sister of the late Victor Reeve’s former associate, carrying a legacy of vengeance that had festered in the dark for over a year.
“You walk into a lion’s den without an invitation, Ms. Vance,” Bella said, her voice entirely devoid of fear as she stepped into the open living space. “Or did you forget how your brother’s empire collapsed?”
Elena offered a cold, humorless smile, stepping further inside while keeping her hands visible. “My brother was a fool who relied on brute force and crude threats. He didn't understand that true power isn't held by the person who controls the cargo ships, Isabella. It’s held by the person who controls the legal infrastructure that allows those ships to dock.”
Bella crossed her arms, studying the younger woman with cold, clinical detachment. “If you came here to threaten me with municipal liens or recycled corporate lawsuits, save your breath. Alina dismantled your father’s old legal traps months ago.”
“I didn't come to threaten you with lawsuits,” Elena whispered, her eyes flashing with a dangerous intensity. “I came to offer you a choice. Vanguard Holdings is about to file an emergency injunction that will freeze every single international port authority linked to Moretti Atlantic Holdings. By tomorrow afternoon, your ships won't be able to dock anywhere from New York to Marseille. Unless...”
May you like
“Unless what?” Bella challenged.
“Unless you sign over voting control of the primary maritime trust to Vanguard,” Elena smiled, stepping closer. “You keep your title, you keep your penthouse, and you get to raise your son in peace. Refuse, and watch everything your father and your late husband built turn to ash before the week is out.”
