Chapter 1 - The Shattered ShadowThe air in the yard curdled into a suffocating stillness.

As Vanessa lunged down to grab Kate’s left sneaker, her fingers barely grazed the crisp white leather before the world tilted on its axis. Kate didn’t flinch. She didn’t scream. With a movement so fluid and precise it looked rehearsed in a military simulator, Kate pivoted her hips, caught Vanessa by her outstretched wrist, and drove her heel straight into the giant woman’s knee joint.
A sickening CRACK echoed off the cold concrete walls.
Vanessa let out a guttural howl, her massive body buckling instantly. But Kate wasn’t finished. Before Vanessa could fall, Kate leveraged the woman’s own crushing weight against her, twisting her wrist into an agonized lock and slamming Vanessa’s face directly into the gravel.
The entire yard forgot how to breathe.
Inmates holding smuggled phones lowered them in sheer disbelief. Guards who usually turned a blind eye were paralyzed, their whistles raised halfway to their lips. The untamed tyrant of Cell Block B was pinioned to the dust, hyperventilating, her cheek pressed into the dirt beneath the pristine sole of Kate’s white sneaker.
Kate leaned down, her voice a calm, chilling whisper that carried only to Vanessa’s ear. "I don't make the rules, Vanessa. I enforce them."
She released her grip, stepped back calmly, and smoothed down her blue jumpsuit. Not a single thread on her uniform was out of place.
Before Vanessa’s inner circle could process what happened, heavy boots thundered across the yard. The tactical response team burst through the security doors, batons drawn, sirens wailing.
"ON THE GROUND! BOTH OF YOU!" standard procedure screamed over the loudspeakers.
Kate offered no resistance. She dropped gracefully to her knees, placing her hands behind her head. As the guards tackled the sobbing, broken Vanessa onto a stretcher, Warden Thomas stepped into the yard. His gaze swept past the hysterical bully and locked straight onto Kate.
There was no anger in his eyes—only deep, unsettling terror.

As Kate was led away in heavy iron chains, she didn't look like a prisoner being taken to solitary confinement. She walked like a queen stepping onto her throne. And deep in the darkness of the administration building, a classified file sat on the Warden’s desk, stamped with three red words: PROJECT NEMESIS: LEVEL 9.
Chapter 1 Hook: Kate wasn't an inmate trying to survive the night. She was a weapon sent to burn the prison down from the inside—and Vanessa was just the collateral damage.
