Chapter 11 - The Phantom in the Network

The digital skyline of Sterling Global Technologies hummed with billions of calculations per second. In the subterranean server room beneath the Manhattan headquarters, rows of blue-lit server racks pulsed like a living mechanical beast.

Christopher sat in his private glass-enclosed monitoring hub, his fingers flying across a customized dual-monitor console. Three years after Juliette’s permanent removal to the Siberian penitentiary, the corporate ecosystem had stabilized. Yet, a ghost in the system had just flickered across his diagnostic screens—an unauthorized ping utilizing an encryption protocol he hadn't seen since the Swiss days.

"Boss," Victor Vance’s voice echoed through the encrypted headset. "I’m tracking the packet origin now. It’s bouncing through three proxy servers in Panama, but the core cryptographic signature... it matches the signature Juliette used to funnel money through the Blackwood accounts."

Christopher stopped typing. His jaw tightened, his gray eyes narrowing as he stared at the cascading string of alphanumeric code scrolling down the monitor. "Juliette is locked behind reinforced steel in a maximum-security black site. She doesn't have access to a terminal, let alone quantum decryption keys."

"She might not," Victor replied grimly, "but her former co-conspirator—the silent partner we never unmasked in Zurich—does."

The screen suddenly flashed a brilliant, blinding crimson. A line of text materialized letter by letter across Christopher’s display: “YOU LEFT ONE LOOSE END, CHRISTOPHER. THE EMPIRE BURNS NEXT.”

Christopher didn't flinch. Instead, a dangerous, cold smile touched the corners of his lips. He leaned into the microphone, his voice dropping to that lethal, dead whisper that had once terrified Juliette into absolute silence.

"Let them come," Christopher murmured. "I’ve been waiting for the rest of the rats to crawl out of the woodwork."
