Chapter 6 - A Father’s Promise

Later that afternoon, away from the prying eyes of the media and the sterile walls of the corporate boardroom, Christopher sat quietly in the sprawling private greenhouse behind the Sterling mansion. The air was warm and humid, filled with the sweet fragrance of blooming white orchids and tropical ferns.
Little Emma sat curled up on a plush velvet armchair, wrapped in a soft cashmere blanket, sipping warm honey-lemon tea from a porcelain cup. Her cheeks had regained a healthy pink hue, and her bright blue eyes—so strikingly similar to her late mother’s—watched her father with a quiet, trusting reverence.
Christopher knelt down beside her chair, resting his large hands gently over her small ones.
"How are you feeling, sweetheart?" he asked, his voice softening entirely, losing the cold edge of a ruthless billionaire CEO and transforming into the warm, tender tone of a devoted father.
Emma took a small sip of her tea before looking down. "My chest doesn't hurt anymore, Daddy. And... and Juliette isn't coming back, is she?"
Christopher gently brushed a stray lock of blonde hair behind her ear. "No, sweetheart. Juliette is never coming back. You are completely safe now. No one will ever hurt you again. I promise you that with every breath I take."
Emma let out a long, shuddering sigh of relief, leaning her head against her father’s shoulder. Christopher wrapped his arms around her frail frame, holding her tightly against his chest as a wave of fierce, protective emotion washed over him. He had spent three years playing the long game—tolerating Juliette’s psychological games, enduring her subtle poisons, playing the oblivious husband—all to gather undeniable, bulletproof evidence that would ensure she could never threaten his daughter again.
Through the glass panes of the greenhouse, Christopher looked out toward the sparkling blue water of the swimming pool where the nightmare had almost ended less than twenty-four hours ago. The water was calm now, reflecting the golden hues of the autumn sunset.
His phone buzzed softly in his pocket. He pulled it out and glanced at the encrypted screen. It was a single text message from Victor Vance: “Extradition papers approved. Interpol transport flight departs Zurich-bound terminal at midnight. She’s completely finished, boss.”
Christopher locked the phone screen and slipped it back into his pocket. He pressed a gentle kiss to the top of Emma’s head.

"Come on, little one," Christopher whispered softly, standing up and offering her his hand. "Let's go inside. Martha made your favorite strawberry tarts for dinner."
Emma’s face lit up with a bright, genuine smile—the first real, unburdened smile Christopher had seen on his daughter’s face in over three years. She grabbed his hand tightly, and together, father and daughter walked out of the greenhouse and back into their home, finally free from the shadows of the past.
