Chapter 12 - The Shadow of Blackwood

The board of directors had reconvened by emergency summons at midnight. Rain lashed violently against the sixty-floor glass windows of the penthouse, casting erratic shadows across the mahogany table.
Arthur Pendelton was long gone, but a new face occupied the front row—Julian Vance (no relation to Victor), a charismatic, silver-haired venture capitalist who had recently acquired a fifteen percent stake in Sterling Global through a shell corporation named Blackwood Holdings.
"Christopher, this emergency meeting is entirely unjustified," Julian stated smoothly, adjusting his titanium-rimmed glasses as he leaned back in his leather chair. "You dragged us out of our beds at midnight because of a ghost in the network? We are a trillion-dollar tech conglomerate, not a ghost-hunting agency."
Christopher stood at the head of the table, his arms crossed over his chest. He hadn't sat down since the meeting began. He looked at Julian not with anger, but with the cold, calculated detachment of an apex predator studying its prey.
"You dropped your mask too early, Julian," Christopher said softly, the silence in the room instantly dropping ten degrees.
Julian’s smile didn't waver, though a microscopic twitch betrayed the corner of his left eye. "I beg your pardon? My acquisition of Blackwood Holdings was fully vetted by the SEC."
"SEC filings can be forged when you control the notary office in Zurich," Christopher countered, stepping forward and slamming a thick encrypted drive onto the polished mahogany surface. "Blackwood wasn't just a shell company. It was the parent syndicate that funded Juliette’s operations across Europe. And you, Julian, were the mastermind who planted her in my house to engineer Emma’s 'accidental' drowning so you could acquire our proprietary quantum encryption patents."
The room erupted into a cacophony of gasps and whispers. Directors scrambled backward in their seats, staring at Julian in absolute shock.
Julian slowly stood up, dropping his polite facade. His face twisted into a mask of ugly malice. "You think you’ve won, Christopher? You only dealt with a pawn. The real syndicate owns half the European judiciary. If you move against me, your stock crashes by morning, and your precious little daughter becomes a target again."
Before Julian could finish his sentence, the heavy oak doors of the boardroom swung open wide. Two federal marshals, accompanied by Interpol Director Alvarez, stepped into the room with heavy, deliberate strides.

"Julian Thorne, you are under arrest for international racketeering, corporate espionage, and conspiracy to commit murder," Director Alvarez announced, snapping heavy steel cuffs onto Julian’s wrists before he could even blink.
Christopher watched without expression as his final enemy was dragged away in disgrace, proving once and for all that no spiderweb was intricate enough to outsmart a father protecting his blood.
