Chloe was now over a year old, a bundle of relentless energy, curious laughter, and tiny, determined footsteps that echoed across the hardwood floors of our penthouse.
On a bright Saturday morning, she stood by the edge of the living room rug, clutching the edge of the coffee table, her little brow furrowed in absolute concentration.
“Come on, sweet girl,” I murmured, kneeling a few feet away with my arms open wide, encouraging her forward. “You can do it.”
She let go of the table.
For one breathless, wobbly second, she hovered in mid-air, her arms flailing slightly for balance. Then, with a joyful squeal, she took two clumsy, determined steps straight into my waiting arms.
