Chapter 2 – The Name That Should Have Been Impossible

Three hours later, the intensive care unit was almost silent.
Rain tapped softly against the hospital windows.
The elderly man's condition remained critical, but stable.
Most doctors had already gone home.
Only Ethan stayed.
He couldn't explain why he kept checking on a patient with no family, no identification, and no medical records.
Something kept pulling him back.
Just before dawn...
The old man's fingers twitched.
His eyes opened slightly.
Cloudy.
Weak.
Barely conscious.
Ethan stepped closer.
"Sir... can you hear me?"
The old man stared directly into Ethan's face.
For several seconds he said nothing.
Then tears slowly rolled down his wrinkled cheeks.
His lips trembled.
With almost no strength left...
He whispered only three words.
"My... little... Ethan..."
The room went completely still.
Ethan's heart nearly stopped.
No one had told the patient his name.
His badge was turned away.
His introduction had never been spoken.
Yet somehow...
The dying stranger knew exactly who he was.
Before Ethan could ask another question, the cardiac monitor suddenly began screaming.
The old man's heart crashed again.
Doctors flooded back into the room.
Another code blue.
Another desperate battle between life and death.
But as nurses pulled Ethan away from the bed...
Something slipped from the patient's trembling hand.
A faded photograph.
Ethan picked it up.
His blood turned cold.
The picture showed a smiling young soldier...
Holding a three-year-old boy wearing the exact same wooden necklace Ethan had kept around his own neck since childhood.
On the back of the photograph, written in faded ink, were six chilling words:
May you like
"If you're reading this... I found you."
To be continued...
