Chapter 4 – The Man in Room 309

By the next night, Thomas Hale was awake.

Weak.

Breathing through a tube.

But alive.

Ethan entered Room 309 carrying the photograph and the letter.

His voice trembled.

"Tell me the truth. Who are you?"

Thomas looked at him with tired eyes.

"I spent thirty years looking for you."

Ethan's chest tightened.

"My mother said you were dangerous."

Thomas began to cry.

"Your mother didn't hide you from me. She hid you from my brother."

Then he revealed the truth.

Ethan had been born into one of the richest families in the state.

But when his grandfather died, the inheritance was supposed to go to Ethan.

Not Thomas.

Not his brother.

A baby.

Thomas's younger brother, Victor Hale, tried to erase Ethan from the family line forever.

The night Ethan disappeared, his mother ran with him and changed his identity.

Thomas was framed, imprisoned, and told his son was dead.

Ethan backed away, unable to breathe.

Then Thomas grabbed his wrist and whispered:

"Victor knows I'm alive now."

At that exact moment...

The lights in Room 309 flickered.

The heart monitor went black.

And through the glass window, Ethan saw a man in a dark suit standing in the hallway...

Smiling like he had just found what he came to kill.
