Chapter 3 – The Woman Who Lied

Ethan stood frozen with the photograph in his hand.
His whole life, he had been told the same story.
His father died before he could remember him.
His mother raised him alone.
No relatives.
No answers.
No past.
But now a dying stranger had whispered his name... and carried a photo of him as a child.
Ethan rushed home before sunrise and tore open the locked box his mother had left behind after her death.
Inside, he found adoption papers.
A false birth certificate.
And one sealed letter addressed to him.
His hands shook as he opened it.
The first line shattered him.
"Ethan, if a man named Thomas Hale ever finds you, run."
Thomas Hale.
That was the name printed on the old patient's hospital bracelet after police finally identified him.
The man Ethan had fought forty-seven minutes to save...
Was the man his mother had warned him about.

But the final sentence of the letter was even worse.
"He is not your enemy. He is your father."
