CHAPTER 3 – The Man Who Was Watching From the Window

Three days after the diner story spread across town, everyone was calling Daniel Harper a hero.

But Daniel knew one thing no one else did.

That construction collapse was not an accident.

At midnight, he sat alone in his office, replaying the security footage again and again.

The steel beam had not fallen because of weak support.

Someone had cut the safety cable.

And right before the collapse, one man appeared on camera wearing a black hoodie.

Daniel zoomed in.

His blood ran cold.

It was his own younger brother, Marcus.

Marcus had always hated him.

Daniel inherited the company.

Marcus inherited nothing but jealousy.

The next morning, Daniel called the little girl's father, Ethan, into his office.

"Ethan," Daniel said quietly, "the accident that almost killed you was planned."

Ethan's face turned pale.

"Why would anyone do that?"

Daniel placed a photo on the desk.

"Because someone wanted to destroy my company. And you were supposed to die so the blame would fall on me."

Ethan stared at the photo.

Then he whispered:

"I know this man."

Daniel froze.

"What?"

Ethan's hands shook.

"He came to the site two weeks ago. He offered me ten thousand dollars to ignore a safety warning."

Daniel leaned forward.

"And what did you say?"

Ethan's voice broke.

"I refused."

Suddenly, Daniel understood everything.

Marcus didn't just want revenge.

He wanted Ethan dead because Ethan was the only honest worker who could expose him.

That evening, Daniel returned to the diner.

The little girl was there again, eating pancakes with her father.

For the first time, Ethan looked happy.

But outside the window...

A black car was parked across the street.

Inside it sat Marcus.

Watching them.

Smiling.

Then Daniel's phone buzzed.

A message appeared from an unknown number:

"You saved the wrong man. Tomorrow, the little girl disappears."

May you like

Daniel looked up.

The black car was gone.
