Chapter 4 - The Puppet Master's Mask

The air inside the shipping container turned to ice.
Sarah’s eyes darted from the armed FBI tactical team to Daniel, whose aggressive posture instantly melted into a cold, disciplined, military stance. He didn't look shocked. He didn't look confused.
He looked like an operator.
"Daniel?" Sarah whispered, her voice breaking into a fragile thread. "What... what is she talking about?"
Daniel closed his eyes for a brief second, a heavy shadow crossing his face, before he pulled a silver badge from his inner waterproof belt and held it out.
"Agent Daniel Vance, FBI Underground Asset Recovery," he said, his tone entirely devoid of the tenderness he had used with her for the last five years. "My team has been tracking the Sterling Syndicate for seven years, Sarah."
Sarah stumbled back, hitting the corrugated metal wall of the container. The betrayal hit her harder than the icy ocean water ever could. "Five years... our marriage... Lily... was all of it a fake? Was our entire life just an assignment to you?!"
"The assignment was to monitor Arthur Sterling’s liquid assets," Daniel said, his voice tight, refusing to meet her eyes directly. "We knew he faked his death. We knew someone on the inside was going to unlock the four-billion-dollar offshore reserve when you turned 25."
"You used me!" Sarah screamed, tears flooding her face. She pulled Lily close, shielding the child from him as if he were a monster. "You acted like you loved me! You jumped off a cliff tonight!"
"I jumped off that cliff because I couldn't let you die!" Daniel snapped back, a flash of raw emotion breaking through his professional mask. "That wasn't part of the mission, Sarah! The mission was compromised the moment Evelyn tried to kill you early!"
Agent Vance—Daniel’s older sister and operational supervisor—stepped forward, waving her hand for the tactical team to hold their fire.
"Enough personal drama," Agent Vance demanded sternly. "Arthur and Evelyn have joined forces at the Sterling Tower downtown. They realized Sarah survived the cliff fall, and Evelyn is currently uploading a forged biometric bypass to drain the $4 Billion trust before the midnight deadline. If that money moves to the Swiss accounts, it funds international terrorism networks for the next decade."
"She has the real key," Daniel said, pointing to the thumb drive in his hand. "Sarah was keeping it from Arthur."
Agent Vance looked at Sarah. "Hand over the encryption key, Sarah. Help us stop your father, and we can make a deal for your immunity."
Sarah wiped her eyes, looking at Daniel with utter disgust. "I trusted you with my life. I gave you my heart. And you were just waiting for the day you could put handcuffs on me."
"Sarah, please," Daniel stepped toward her, his voice softening. "You don't understand how dangerous Arthur is. He doesn't care about you. He doesn't care about Lily."
"And you do?!" Sarah yelled. "You lied to me every single day for five years!"
Suddenly, the night sky was torn apart by the sound of approaching heavy choppers.

Two unmarked attack helicopters hovered directly above the shipyard. Before the FBI team could react, heavy automatic gunfire rained down from above, shredding the FBI vehicles into blazing fireballs!
Chapter 4 Cliffhanger: A flashbang grenade bounced inside the shipping container. As white light and deafening noise exploded, armored men descended on ropes from the choppers. Amidst the smoke, Evelyn stepped into the container wearing a bulletproof vest, holding a detonator!
