Chapter 1 - The Silence After the Voice

The laughter died so fast it felt like the air had been sucked out of the clearing.
Jason stood frozen, holding his phone, the red recording icon still blinking on the screen. Beside him, his two friends—Mark and Leo—were still smirking, but their eyes shifted nervously between Jason and the trembling girl sitting in the mud pit.
Her name was Mia. She was the quiet, invisible girl who transferred to Oakridge High three weeks ago. She never spoke up in class. She always sat in the back, steering her motorized wheelchair with careful, timid hands. To Jason and his clique, she was the ultimate target—an easy, helpless victim to boost their social media clout.
"What did you just say?" Jason sneered, though his voice wavered slightly. "You called your dad? Oh, I’m so scared. What’s he gonna do, sue us?"
Mia didn't look up. Her hands were caked in thick, dark slime, her white school blouse ruined, soaked in filthy rainwater. Her frame shook violently, not just from the cold, but from sheer terror and humiliation.
Through the phone’s loudspeaker, a deep, icy voice echoed into the silent woods:
"Jason Vance. Mark Reynolds. Leo Miller. I have all three of your live GPS locations tracked. Do not move an inch. If any of you touch my daughter again, or if you run, I will personally ensure you never see the light of day."
Mark dropped his vape into the grass. "Yo... Jason... how does he know our names?"
Jason’s heart hammered against his ribs. He swallowed hard, grabbing his phone to end his own livestream, but before his thumb could touch the screen, a sound cut through the trees.
It wasn't a police siren.
It was the heavy, rhythmic thudding of low-flying helicopter blades tearing through the air.
The canopy of trees above them began to whip violently as powerful searchlights pierced through the twilight, blinding the three boys. Through the glaring white light, the shadow of a massive black SUV tore through the wooden fencing at the edge of the park, destroying the barrier like cardboard, and slammed to a halt just ten yards away.
The driver’s door opened. A tall man in a tailored dark suit stepped out. He didn't wear a police uniform, but on his lapel was the golden crest of the Federal Special Investigations Division, flanked by two armed tactical officers who immediately raised their rifles.

This wasn't just the local Police Chief.
"Jason..." Leo whimpered, stepping backward into the brush. "Who... who is her dad?!"
