Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

The room felt like it was shrinking. Jason turned to his father, his chest heaving with overwhelming betrayal.

"Dad..." Jason choked out. "Is that true? You... you used me? You made me push her into that mud so you could sell her out?!"

Richard suddenly stood up, his face twisted in desperate anger.

"I had no choice!" Richard yelled, tears streaming down his face. "Aegis threatened to kill you, Jason! They've been watching you for months! They said if I didn't deliver the decryption key from Mia’s implant, they would send a hit squad to our house!"

"So you made your own son a monster?!" Jason screamed back, standing up to face him. "You made me torture an innocent girl! My own cousin!"

"I was trying to save your life!" Richard pleaded, reaching out for Jason's arm.

"DON'T TOUCH ME!" Jason shoved his father away.

Suddenly, the red emergency lights throughout the underground bunker began to flash. A loud electronic siren wailed through the speakers.

"WARNING: PERIMETER BREACH. SECTOR 4 COMPROMISED."

Marcus immediately drew his sidearm, checking the main monitor wall. The security feeds showed dozens of armed Aegis mercenaries flooding the upper levels of the facility.

"They bypassed the security grid," Marcus gritted his teeth, looking at Richard with absolute disgust. "You gave them the facility codes, didn't you, Richard?"

Richard pulled a small detonator from his pocket, his hand trembling uncontrollably.

"I'm sorry, Marcus," Richard stammered, backing toward the blast doors. "They promised me they’d spare Jason if I gave them the key. I have to finish this."
