Chapter 6 - The Dark Truth

An hour later, the medical van pulled into a subterranean bunker hidden beneath an abandoned industrial warehouse on the outskirts of the city.

The heavy blast doors sealed shut behind them with a deep hydraulic hiss.

Mark and Leo had been separated and taken into federal custody by Marcus’s remaining team, leaving only Jason, his father Richard, Marcus, and Mia inside the high-tech tactical center.

Medical staff immediately surrounded Mia, wheeling her into a cleanroom to replace her damaged neural components.

Jason sat on a metal bench, staring at his mud-stained hands. His father sat across from him, head resting in his hands.

Chief Marcus walked into the room, wiping blood off his face with a towel. He tossed a heavy dossier onto the table in front of Jason.

"Look at it," Marcus commanded.

Jason opened the folder. Inside were dozens of surveillance photographs—not of Mia, but of his father, Richard.

"What is this?" Jason asked, his voice barely a whisper.

"Your father isn't a victim here, Jason," Marcus said coldly. "He’s the architect."

Jason looked up at his father in total disbelief. "Dad... what is he talking about?"

Richard couldn't meet his son's eyes.

"Fifteen years ago, your father stole a classified defense algorithm from my department," Marcus explained, leaning over the table. "He sold it to an international syndicate called Aegis. When I found out, I went dark to hunt them down. To protect Mia, I implanted the safety destruction keys inside her medical hardware—the only place I knew Aegis could never reach without killing her."

Marcus leaned down, staring straight into Jason’s soul.

"Your father knew Mia was at that park today. He sent you there, Jason. He gave you the idea to target her. He used your vanity, your desire for social media fame, to force Mia into the open so Aegis could track her signal."
