Chapter 8 - The Final Twist

BOOM!

A series of heavy charges detonated along the server racks, plunging the entire bunker into complete darkness, save for the faint red emergency strobes.

The heavy blast doors slammed shut, locking Marcus and his tactical team inside the control hub, while Richard grabbed Jason by the jacket, dragging him into the side escape corridor.

"Move, Jason! Now!" Richard screamed, pulling his son toward the surface exit.

"Let go of me!" Jason fought back, breaking free of his father’s grip in the dim light. "I’m not going anywhere with you!"

"You don't understand!" Richard yelled, grabbing Jason’s shoulders. "We have to get to the extraction helicopter! Aegis is waiting for us!"

"No, Dad," Jason said softly, his voice dropping all tone of panic, replaced by an unsettling, icy calm. "You don't understand."

Richard paused, frowning. "What are you talking about?"

Jason reached into his mud-stained pocket and pulled out his phone. The screen was cracked, but the recording light was still green.

"Did you really think I was just a stupid kid who wanted TikTok clout, Dad?" Jason asked, a dark smile creeping onto his face.

He tilted the phone screen toward his father.

On the display wasn't a live stream to social media. It was an active broadcast stream feeding directly into the Federal High Court’s secure database.

"When Mia was crying in the mud," Jason whispered, stepping closer to his father, "she didn't just call Chief Marcus for help. She whispered the security override code to me while I was pretending to mock her."

Richard’s eyes widened in absolute horror. "What...?"

"Marcus and Mia planned this whole thing," Jason revealed, his voice steady and cold. "They knew there was a traitor in the family. They knew someone was feeding Aegis information. So they used me as the bait to pull you into the open."

"You... you lied to me?!" Richard gasped, backing away until his back hit the cold concrete wall.

"I didn't know at first," Jason admitted, tears welling in his eyes. "I really was a cruel, selfish idiot this morning. But when I looked at Mia in that mud pit... when I saw the fear in her eyes... I realized what kind of person I was becoming. Your person. And I decided I’d rather go to prison than end up like you."

The heavy steel doors behind them groaned as a plasma torch began cutting through the reinforced lock from the inside.

Within seconds, the door burst open. Chief Marcus stepped through, flanked by federal agents with their weapons raised and aimed directly at Richard.

Behind Marcus walked Mia. She was no longer in her wheelchair; she was standing upright, supported by a sleek, state-of-the-art military exoskeleton, holding a secure tablet device in her hand.

"The transmission is complete, Dad," Mia said calmly, looking at Marcus. "Every offshore account, every contact, and every coordinate linked to Aegis and Richard Vance has been uploaded to federal servers. Interpol is arresting their entire board right now."

Richard slumped against the wall, dropping his weapon as the agents moved in, slapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists.

As they dragged his father away, Richard stared at Jason in utter shock. "Jason... please..."

Jason turned his back, refusing to look at him.

Marcus walked up to Jason, placing a heavy hand on the boy's shoulder.

"You did the right thing, kid," Marcus said quietly. "You made a terrible mistake today, but you chose the right side when it mattered most."

Jason looked over at Mia. Her white uniform was clean now, her posture strong and resolute.

"I still have to pay for what I did to you," Jason said, looking down at his boots. "I pushed you. I humiliated you."

Mia looked at her cousin, her expression soft, but stern.

"You're going to do community service, Jason," Mia said quietly. "Lots of it. Starting tomorrow, you're helping me rebuild the youth center you destroyed last summer. And you're going to tell the world the truth about what happened here today."

Jason nodded slowly, feeling the weight of his actions, but for the first time in his life, feeling a sense of real purpose.

The screen fades to black as the sirens roar into the night sky, leaving behind the ruins of a dark empire and the truth that finally came to light.
