Chapter 6 - THE SURVIVOR'S REVENGE

THE FINAL TWIST NO ONE SAW COMING! THE EMPIRE WILL FALL! 💥Eleanor stepped onto the speedboat, placing the briefcase on the console. She turned back to me, raising the pistol one final time.
"Goodbye, Elena. I'll tell the board you died a hero trying to stop Daniel."
"You always told me grandfather built this place to be a fortress, Mother," I said, a cold smile breaking through the blood on my face. I held up my left hand.
I wasn't holding the gold badge anymore. I had left it jammed inside the vault's mechanical override valve upstairs.
"Do you know what happens when the founder's badge remains in the mechanical override for more than five minutes during a Category 5 storm lock?" I asked, my voice deadly quiet.
Eleanor’s hand hesitated on the trigger. Her brow furrowed. "What are you talking about?"
"It activates the structural floodgates," I whispered. "To protect the main structure, the lower caverns are sacrificed to the sea."
Right on cue, a massive, metallic groan echoed through the cavern walls. Heavy, multi-ton steel blast doors began to drop rapidly from the ceiling, sealing the subterranean docks off from the main resort—and opening the massive offshore flood barriers.
A wall of ocean water, driven by the raging storm outside, came crashing into the cavern like a tidal wave.
Eleanor’s eyes widened in sheer terror. She turned to start the boat's engine, but the sheer force of the incoming tide slammed the vessel violently against the concrete roof of the closing cavern structure, crushing the hull instantly. The briefcase drifted out into the churning, violent foam.
"Elena!" Eleanor screamed, reaching out as the water rapidly rose to her waist, the current pulling her out toward the open, stormy sea.
I didn't look back. Using the last reserves of my strength, I rolled into the narrow emergency drainage shaft located at the highest point of the pier—a shaft that led directly up to the resort's secure, ground-level helipad.
TWELVE HOURS LATER...The storm had passed. The morning sun broke through the clouds, illuminating the heavily damaged Somor Resort.
Flashing blue and red lights lined the entire coastal driveway. Federal agents were carrying boxes of encrypted files out of the main lobby. Daniel had been dragged from the surf by coast guard authorities, severely injured and facing a lifetime in federal prison for conspiracy and attempted murder. Eleanor Somor’s body was nowhere to be found, lost to the depths of the Atlantic shelf.
I sat in the back of an ambulance, a warm blanket wrapped around my shoulders. Marcus’s old security team—now under federal custody—watched as I stood up and walked toward the edge of the cliff overlooking the ocean.
A high-ranking federal agent stepped up beside me. "Ms. Somor, the evidence on your drive cleared everything up. The offshore land deals are frozen. The Obsidian Group's assets have been seized. The resort group is legally yours now. You’re the sole remaining trustee."
I looked down at the gold founder's badge, which the forensics team had recovered from the drained vault room and returned to me. It was scratched, dented, and stained with the history of a fractured family.
"I don't want the resort," I said quietly, tossing the gold badge off the cliff, watching it flash one last time before disappearing forever into the deep blue sea.
"Build a sanctuary on the coast. Let the Somor name burn. I'm building something new."
🚨 SHE THOUGHT SHE WAS SAFE IN THE ICU—UNTIL THE MONITOR METERS STARTED DROPPING! 🚨The sterile smell of Saint Jude’s Private Hospital did nothing to calm the paranoia humming in my veins. It had been forty-eight hours since the floodgates of Somor Resort swallowed my mother and shattered my cousin’s operations. The federal guards stationed outside my VIP recovery suite gave the illusion of safety, but if the last three years had taught me anything, it was that walls are only as strong as the people paid to guard them.
My broken ribs were bound tight, and the deep lacerations across my face were stitched, but the real pain was the deafening silence from the investigation. No body had been recovered from the Atlantic shelf. Eleanor Somor was a ghost long before she staged her death; drowning felt entirely too simple for a woman who commanded syndicates.
"Ms. Somor," a soft voice interrupted my thoughts.
A nurse in pale blue scrubs entered the room, her gaze fixed entirely on the clipboard in her hands. She adjusted the IV drip attached to my left arm.
"Your vitals are stabilizing," she murmured, her tone flat, almost mechanical. "But the doctor ordered an increased dosage of your sedative to help with the trauma."
I looked at the clear fluid dripping steadily into the tube connected to my vein. A cold sensation began to creep up my forearm, turning into a sharp, burning ache. My heart monitor's rhythmic beep began to slow down dramatically. Beep... beep... ... beep.
"Wait," I croaked, my throat dry. "What doctor? Dr. Aris handled my intake. Who authorized this?"
The nurse finally looked up. Her eyes weren't filled with professional empathy. They were dead, calculating, and chillingly familiar. It was Vanessa’s younger sister, Clara—a woman I had seen in corporate headshots but never met in person.
"The Obsidian Group sends their regards, Elena," Clara whispered, leaning over my bed. "You thought freezing the land deals stopped the wheel? You only jammed the gears. And when gears jam, they have to be purged."
My vision began to blur as the sedative flooded my system. The room tilted violently. The heart monitor began to emit a steady, high-pitched whine as my heart rate plunged toward zero. Clara reached out, her fingers wrapping around the gold badge sitting on my bedside table—the duplicate I had kept in my safe deposit box.

With the last ounce of my fading consciousness, I didn't reach for the call button. I grabbed the heavy glass water pitcher next to the bed and smashed it directly into the side of the heart monitor console.
The machine exploded in a shower of blue sparks, triggering the hospital’s primary electrical failure alarm and plunging the floor into an immediate code-blue lockdown.
