Chapter 17 - The Vault of Shadows – Secrets of the Vance Legacy
While the corporate board was purged, Arthur Vance led Khloe into the deepest subterranean level of the ancestral Vance stronghold in Zurich. Passing through three heavy biometrically sealed steel blast doors, they entered a climate-controlled vault containing physical paper archives spanning over a century.
“Why did Aegis target Marcus, Arthur?” Khloe asked, her eyes scanning rows of classified files. “It wasn't just about business, was it?”
Arthur pulled down a dusty, brass-bound ledger marked 1948 – The Geneva Accord.
“Your grandfather, William Vance, founded our security network after World War II,” Arthur explained, opening the yellowed pages. “He uncovered that five founding European dynasties—the predecessors of the Aegis Syndicate—had stashed stolen war bullion and secret genetic research in offshore trusts. William froze those trusts permanently.”
Arthur looked at Khloe with profound sorrow. “Marcus’s grandfather was one of William’s closest allies. The Thorne family held half of the decryption keys required to open the ultimate Aegis reserve—a master ledger containing the secret identities of every corrupt politician, judge, and billionaire in the Western world.”
Khloe’s breath caught in her throat. “Isabella… Victoria… the framing of Marcus… it was all to force Marcus to give up his grandfather's key.”
“Yes,” Arthur nodded. “And now that they realize you hold the Vance half of the key, they won't stop at framing Marcus. They are coming for total war.”

“They found the vault,” Arthur whispered, drawing a sidearm from his shoulder holster. “The siege has begun.”
