Chapter 9 - The Midnight Ambush – A Final Desperate Strike at the Nursery

Two weeks after the public downfall of the Rossi empire, quiet returned to the Thorne-Vance estate. Isabella and her father were locked in high-security federal custody, facing decades behind bars without the possibility of bail. The scandal had cleared, and public admiration for Khloe had reached unprecedented heights.

It was a stormy midnight when Khloe stood in the quiet nursery, softly running her fingers over the carved wooden crib built for her baby boy, who was due in just a few short weeks.

Suddenly, the lights throughout the mansion flickered and died. The backup generators hummed, but before they could kick in, the heavy reinforced door to the nursery creaked open.

A shadowed figure stepped into the room, holding a gleam of silver in the faint moonlight.

It was Isabella.

She had used the last remnants of her family’s underground criminal connections to engineer an escape during her prison transit transfer. Her hair was matted, her eyes wild with complete madness, and in her hand was a surgical scalpel.

“Did you think it was over, Khloe?” Isabella whispered, her voice rasping like dry leaves. “If I can’t have Marcus, if I can’t have my family’s wealth, you won't have your baby.”

Isabella lunged forward with psychotic speed, aiming the blade straight at Khloe!

Khloe didn't scream. She didn't flinch. She didn't even step back.

Instead, Khloe sidestepped with effortless grace, catching Isabella’s arm and slamming her wrist against the marble pillar. The scalpel clattered to the floor. Before Isabella could recover, Khloe swept her leg, dropping the manic woman violently onto the floor.

Isabella gasped, looking up in sheer shock. “How… how did you…”

“Did you forget whose blood runs in my veins?” Khloe said coldly, stepping on Isabella’s wrist to pin her down. “My father was a defense tactical instructor before he built Vance Security. I was trained to disarm attackers before I learned to ride a bike.”

The lights snapped back on. The door crashed open, and Marcus rushed in with a dozen armed guards, guns drawn. But they stopped dead in their tracks, staring at the scene.

Isabella was pinned helplessly on the floor, weeping in defeat, while Khloe stood over her like an untouchable monarch, completely unharmed.
