Chapter 4 - Poison in the Tea – The Lethal Secret Behind Her Seven-Month Pregnancy

Inside the intensive care unit, the quiet hum of heart monitors provided a steady rhythm. Khloe had made it through the emergency surgery; the baby’s heartbeat was stable, though she remained under heavy observation. Marcus sat by her bedside, holding her pale hand against his cheek, consumed by guilt.
The door opened quietly, and Dr. Helena Rostova, the chief toxicologist, walked in holding a sealed digital file. Her face was unusually grim.
“Mr. Thorne, Chairman Vance,” Dr. Helena began, locking the room’s privacy glass. “We conducted a complete bio-screen on Mrs. Thorne following the trauma of the physical attack. What we found goes far beyond physical assault.”
Marcus froze, his heart pounding against his ribs. “What are you talking about?”
“The physical trauma from the fall caused minor internal bleeding, which we managed to arrest,” Helena explained. “However, her blood work revealed high trace amounts of a rare, odorless compound—Thallium-B. It’s a slow-acting neurotoxin.”
Arthur’s eyes turned murderous. “How long has it been in her system?”
“At least three months,” Dr. Helena answered. “Injected in microscopic doses. It was calculated to cause an unexpected cardiac arrest during labor, making her death appear as a natural medical complication during childbirth.”

Marcus’s glass water tumbler shattered in his hand, crushed by his bare grip. Blood dripped onto the floor, but he didn't feel the pain. The quiet insults, the fake tea visits Isabella insisted on hosting, the customized prenatal supplements Isabella had insisted on sending through high-society gifting channels—it was all a calculated, slow-motion assassination plot.
Isabella hadn't just tried to attack Khloe tonight. She had been murdering her for months.
