Khloe had made it through the emergency surgery; the baby’s heartbeat was stable, though she remained under heavy observation. Marcus sat by her bedside, holding her pale hand against his cheek, consumed by guilt.
The door opened quietly, and Dr. Helena Rostova, the chief toxicologist, walked in holding a sealed digital file. Her face was unusually grim.

Arthur’s eyes turned murderous. “How long has it been in her system?”
“At least three months,” Dr. Helena answered. “Injected in microscopic doses. It was calculated to cause an unexpected cardiac arrest during labor, making her death appear as a natural medical complication during childbirth.”
