Chapter 23 - The Framed Mother

Before I could even track down the origin of the poison, Lucas struck his second blow—straight at my heart.
The following afternoon, four social workers accompanied by armed police officers marched into the Harrington Estate. They carried an emergency court order signed by a federal judge.
"Clara Harrington," the lead agent announced sternly. "We have received a verified report of severe child endangerment. Medical records show traces of restricted narcotics in your son Leo’s blood tests from his routine checkup yesterday."
"What?" I screamed, stepping between the officers and Leo’s room. "That’s impossible! Leo hasn't been to a public hospital in months!"
"The digital records are signed by your personal pediatrician, Ms. Harrington," the social worker replied coldly. "Under emergency mandate, child protective services are placing Leo in temporary state custody pending a full psychiatric evaluation of your fitness as a parent."
I stood paralyzed as they produced fake medical logs, digital signatures, and altered lab results—all masterfully fabricated by Lucas’s high-tech operatives.
They took my son from my arms.
As the police car pulled out of the driveway carrying my crying child away into the rainy afternoon, I stood in the driveway, soaked in water, feeling the exact same emptiness I felt the night Santiago threatened me on the marble floor.

Lucas thought taking Leo would make me break. He thought I would bow down and sign over Harrington Global to get my child back.
He didn't realize he had just unchained the deadliest version of me.
