Chapter 25 - The Undisputed Reign

Lucas pulled the trigger. Nothing happened.

He pulled it again. Click. Click.

The smile melted from his face. He looked down at his weapon in horror, then looked at his mercenaries. Every single one of their red laser sights had turned around—aiming directly at Lucas’s chest and forehead.

His private guards didn't move. Their leader stepped forward, pulling off his mask. It was Marcus—the head of my father’s black-ops unit.

"Did you really think you could buy my father's mercenaries with Vance money, Lucas?" I asked, taking a slow step toward him as the rain poured around us. "My father created this unit twenty years ago. Their loyalty isn't for sale."

Lucas panicked, pulling a small glass vial from his jacket—the antidote for Alexander—and holding it over the edge of the pier above the crashing sea. "One more step and I drop the antidote! Your brother dies!"

Before Lucas could open his hand, a high-caliber sniper round tore through the night sky.

THWACK!

The shot hit Lucas’s wrist with surgical precision. He shrieked in agony, dropping to his knees as his wrist shattered. I lunged forward in the same split second, catching the glass vial out of mid-air before it hit the ground, while Marcus grabbed Leo safely into his arms.

Lucas writhed on the wet concrete, bleeding into the puddles, looking up at me in absolute shock. "How... how did you bypass the court orders? The child services files?"

"I didn't bypass them," I whispered, kneeling down beside him as red police lights began to flash in the distance, illuminating the dark pier. "I let you take Leo to a state facility so my team could trace the exact IP addresses of the corrupt judges and doctors you paid off. Right now, federal agents are arresting every single person who took your bribes."

I stood over him as tactical teams stormed the dock, forcing Lucas Vance into heavy iron restraints.

Two days later, Alexander woke up in the hospital, fully recovered from the antidote.

By the end of the week, the courts formally dismissed all fabricated charges against me, returning full, permanent custody of Leo to my arms. The Vance family dynasty was entirely wiped out—its members imprisoned, its assets liquidated into charitable trusts, and its name erased from the financial world.

I sat in the executive office of Harrington Tower, looking out over the sunrise. Leo played quietly on the rug beside my desk, stacking building blocks with a warm, bright smile.

I had hidden my name once, searching for a love that didn't exist. But through the fire, the betrayal, and the darkness, I found something far greater. I found my own strength.

I was no longer just a survivor of a dark past. I was the undisputed Queen of my own destiny, and no shadow would ever touch my family again.
