Chapter 7 - Sanctuary and Labor

Two weeks later, I was resting peacefully in the private medical wing of the Harrington Estate, surrounded by high fortress walls, lush gardens, and top-tier security. For the first time in years, I felt safe.
My brother Alexander sat by my bedside, peeling an apple for me. "The legal team finalized everything today. Santiago signed the total surrender of parental rights from his jail cell in exchange for a reduction in his mother's conspiracy charges. You and the baby are completely free."
I exhaled a long breath, placing my hands on my bump. "Thank you, Alex. I thought I could escape our family's shadow and find a humble life... but I almost destroyed myself trying to prove I was worthy of love."
"You were always worthy," Alexander said gently. "You just looked for love in a snake pit."
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through my abdomen. I gasped, gripping the bedsheets tight.
"Clara?" Alexander stood up instantly, dropping the knife. "Is it time?"
"My water broke," I gasped, half-laughing, half-crying. "He's coming."

Within minutes, the elite medical team was assembled. Outside the estate, storm clouds rolled in, but inside the private suite, warmth and light filled the room. After six hours of intense labor, the room was filled with the loud, healthy cry of a newborn baby boy.
I held my son against my chest, his tiny fingers curling around mine. "Welcome to the world, Leo Harrington," I whispered, tears of joy streaming down my face.
